anyone living in british columbia area of canada? need some advice.
How much is out of state/country tuition for community college in BC?
Do you have to get a work visa to work there?
curious about this/citizenship/ not being an illegal alien.

its not just for her i really wanna get out of cali and experience life somewhere else.
and she is a blast in the sheets ;) and definitely my best friend.
all around love her and dont know what i would do without her, she feels the same.
so the whole moving together thing is a no brainer.
but even if i wasnt with her i would still want to move to BC.
Aircare (smog) is getting taken out in 2014 so it won't be an issue till then, for now, it's actually pretty easy to pass...not nearly as strict as the CA smog. Basically the only thing you need is a working catalytic convertor, a healthy engine, and you'll be golden. If you've passed CA smog i could almost assure you your car would pass aircare. engine swaps also aren't a hard thing to get to pass.
taking 5 classes at UFV cost me right around $2000-$2500 so it's pretty reasonable. It's a smaller university that only has a bit of on campus living. It's also WAYYY less expensive than places like UBC, SFU, BCIT. I couldn't say how much out of country tuition is, but It's probably the same considering there are a ton of people that fly in from asia and europe to go to UBC.
The salt on the roads is pretty minimal, there are plenty of car washes around so once a week (if you're paranoid) go to the car wash, fire up the pressure washer, and blast out the wheel wells/under carriage. Snow on the roads is pretty minimal, we have years where there is no snow at all, and years where it just absolute dumps down from the heavens, Mostly it's just rain, freezing rain, cold and clear weather. Summer is hot and humid. If you live near the ocean (vancouver, whiterock, etc...) then you'll have to deal with ambient salty air - outside of that it's mild.
There are cars that have rust, and many that don't. The last 2 e30's i've owned are 100% rust free

Also, what's wrong with BC bimmers? I'm not very keen on the site myself, only a few ppl. I have interacted with that were worth befriending. But why so much hate toward that site?
the owner of the site is (the best way i can describe it) bipolar. I've yet to have any good experiences with him, so when he finally got mad at me and banned me, Matt and myself (i didn't do a whole lot other than helping him with some ideas) decided to create a new forum.

I don't know the whole story but some people got butthurt, some people got banned and now there's another local forum. Something like that.
that's the gist of it. There are also a few other reasons but those aren't worth getting into.
hm wow some really good info in here im loving it.
so in 2014 there wont be any emission control?
and how dangerous are the driving conditions for a better than average driver (my girlfriend of course)
she drives really well but ice would make me paranoid for her safety.
*edit* and what about turbo charging cars? does emissions dislike this or is it totally cool or what.

2014 won't have an emissions except for diesel and heavy equipment (from what i'm told), so if everything goes according to plan and the government doesn't decide to back track on their words, it's going away.
It doesn't really snow enough to be a major cause for concern, but if you get a good set of snow tires and maybe load the trunk up with a few weights no issues can be had.
I know a guy with a 900hp supra, a 750hp rx7 fd, and a few others that have super/turbo charged cars and they all pass. I plan to do an s52 swap next summer and I should have no problems getting through.
*edit* there are some issues with black ice around here, but as long as you drive normally and with caution it should be a big deal. Best practice would be to take her to a parking lot when it snows and have hear learn to drift. That's how my brother taught me last year when I got my license and driving up and down mountains to go snowboarding wasn't a single issue after that
looking to move to Vancouver BC with my girlfriend of 5 years because she wants to go to Vancouver CC for the radiology program.
i have a done a little bit of research and most 1 bedroom inner-city places are about 600-1100 depending on how fancy you are.
also did some research on min wage, because i would have to provide us while shes in school,
min wage is 10.25 correct?
is there jobs available on the regular? do they pay min or better? is it hard to find a 5 days a week 8 hour day job?
also schooling, are CC's in vancouver expensive? cost per unit? right now our local college is up to about 52 dollars a unit.
anything i should know about vancouver compared to other big cities like SF or portland, never been to seatle or any other similar city.
thanks fellas.
appreciate it very much.
- Spencer.

Vancouver is a nice place to live, but realestate is expensive.
Living out in the Valley/surrey is cheaper but other than a sky train lines, transit sucks, so you will need to drive. I hate commuting so I pay a premium to live close to DT?
We get waaaaaay less snow than everyone in the US thinks we do, and waaaay less than anywhere else in the country.(historically) some years none, mostly a couple of snow days and it melts inside a week. Vacouver only! The valley gets more snow.
You don't have to shovel rain.
I don't think I have seen a really rusty car on the road in 15 years out here. The rain washes it all off:) yes, winter=rain here, and it only gets cold when it's clear out.
Aircare sucks but is supposed to be on its way out.
Turbo? Christ, MILLER PERFORMANCE is out by SMERFS. They can pass, just tune them to pass. There is only a visual on Cats and a test on your gas cap, the rest is tail pipe emissions only.
This is what I do every year one February(usually feb)WINTER day in North vancouver, just because we can.
9am Tee time at Northlands golf course in North Vancouver
2:30 pm, board my buddies sailboat in Deep Cove in North Van, and do some sailing up the Indian arm to RVYC outpost
Return by 530, drive up to Cypress Mountain in west Vancouver and do some night skiing until closing at 11pm(depending on the day)
