anyone living in british columbia area of canada? need some advice.

posted this in canada subforum with no response really, that subforum doesnt see much traffic.

    so im reposting it here.

looking to move to Vancouver BC with my girlfriend of 5 years because she wants to go to Vancouver CC for the radiology program.

i have a done a little bit of research and most 1 bedroom inner-city places are about 600-1100 depending on how fancy you are.

also did some research on min wage, because i would have to provide us while shes in school,
    min wage is 10.25 correct?
is there jobs available on the regular? do they pay min or better? is it hard to find a 5 days a week 8 hour day job?

also schooling, are CC's in vancouver expensive? cost per unit? right now our local college is up to about 52 dollars a unit.

anything i should know about vancouver compared to other big cities like SF or portland, never been to seatle or any other similar city.

    thanks fellas.
    appreciate it very much.

yes minimum wage is 10.25. You can find a ton of jobs that pay higher than that if you know where to look. Working at Costco or something is a good start, good pay, nice benefits, good hours. Or you could try your hand at construction where the average wage is roughly 17.50 an hour. It wouldn't take long (i'd suspect) for you to find a job.

I would avoid living in vancouver the best you can - Houses are a lot more expensive, everything costs more, but you do get the bonus of being close to anything and everything. Surrey would be a good place, or if you want to commute Abbotsford/Langley are good alternatives.

I have no idea what CC means.

If you do decide to move out here, or want some better info try joining the local group westcoastbimmers.ca the bmw community there are all older than myself and would be a lot of help.

I too would avoid living right in Van. Look at the suburbs Burnaby, Richmond, ect. I chose those two because they are right on the Skytrain lines that lead to the VCC campus, they are the most convenient as parking is retarded(price and availability). I live in Richmond and it takes me about 20 mins to get downtown Van on the Skytrain. Burnaby would be a similar yet cheaper alternative, Burnaby is also very central to everything.

Bcbimmers.com is also a really active forum with lots of guys local to Vancouver.

I don't live there so idk how much help I'll be to you but i wouldn't worry too much about lack of jobs. If you just put in the time and get applying then you can definitely find a solid full time job with good pay.

            gay. WCB or bust.

Not sure how set she is on what school she goes to, but there is also UFV (it's in Abbotsford), which is a smaller university. Fairly sure they also have a radiology program.

Housing would be/is much cheaper in this neck of the woods. Downside is you are literally in the woods, Vancouver is 1 hour away.

Vancouver=Rain, that is all. Thanks for introducing me to westcoastbimmers, I never knew it existed, I had lost all hope for BMW forums in BC after BCBimmers repeatedly disappointed me.

Also, what's wrong with BC bimmers? I'm not very keen on the site myself, only a few ppl. I have interacted with that were worth befriending. But why so much hate toward that site?
If it's got tits or tires, it's gonna cost ya!

I don't know the whole story but some people got butthurt, some people got banned and now there's another local forum. Something like that.

Vancouver... Expect rain with intermittent sunshine year round. When I picked my M3 there last year it was 36 degrees for the high (December) and strangely clear.

Beware the traffic lights. The have the shortest yellow lights I have ever seen. Pretty much assume a Yellow is a red. The whole place is a speed trap.

Vancouver is a fantastic city, lots to do and see. I have an aunt who lives there and my grandmother lives in Langley.

During the summer, if its not raining, the weather is really nice. During the winter, its either rain, snow, freezing rain, or clear and somewhat cold. You also have to deal with the salt air so yeah, cars rust there.

That said, I wouldn't mind living up there. Lots of awesome mountain biking, hiking, skiing as well as some beautiful roads to drive once out of the city. Heck, it might be fun to use my other citizenship for a while. I don't know about the rain however. I hate rain. Snow I'm fine with, but rain...
