The difference between Macs and PCs is night and day. If youre into gaming then dont buy a mac but if you just surf the web and listen to music then an ibook would be perfect. OSX is a lot more stable, secure and all around sexier than XP. Once you go Mac youll never go back.

Geez, if you are evaluating the sexiness of an OS, you must not be getting laid . . . .

Good thing they're finally catching up, 5 years after the fact. The only huge advantage to the upgrade is DirectX 10, and WinSAT, which are both just good for gamers. Now that WinSAT got pulled, it's really just Windows XP plus eyecandy. Sure, they have a mimic of spotlight built into the start menu, but otherwise all there is to look forward to is file stacks...

And is eyecandy really worth it without Scalable Icons? I think not.

I have several Macs and several Windoze PCs. I use both but prefer my Macs any day of the week. Stable as hell and in my opinion it's just a better OS.
            Cheers,

Well I'm glad everything on this forum is a joke, or else I'd have to take your comments to heart.

Didn't mean to offend, but Microsoft has truly let me down as Vista is concerned. The OS market is too narrow, not enough competition, and only with better products will more competition be generated. Until a united form of Linux comes out, that really won't happen unless Google steps into the OS market sometime soon.

I'm anti-Microsoft, so no offense there. The OS market is too small, but Steve Jobs has done a superb job by at least putting up a fight against Microsoft. Linux will never catch on, and I actually wouldn't be too surprised if Google started making an OS; afterall, they have been Microsoft's newest competition, and they're doing a great job at it.

Google is even hiring Microsoft's employees to take them down.

Well this sure spewed out alot of replies in a short amount of time.

Apparently alot of you guys missed the last line in my first post and are trying to convince me to get a windows machine. Im not going to so save your time and energy. I was a MAC guy my whole life, made the switch to PC cause my private school didnt really support macs, now Im regretting it. Its really quite funny how much peaple rag on em when anyone who owns one loves it. I find it amusing when the most aggresive MAC haters are the ones whove never used them.

Secondly, I cannot afford to really wait around all that long to get a replacement computer. I dont have any real academic problems with not having a computer but its going to suck balls for 5 weeks when Im home for break and have no comp, so sooner would be better than later. That being said, how long until the intel chipped Macs come out? Is it next summer or next month? Its a big time difference and one I cannot afford to guess wrong. If they come out in January Ill wait, otherwise Im picking up a refurb unit.

No one knows for sure, a lot of insider reports are calling for consumer models in January (ibook, imac, mac mini). If not it will be sometime early in the summer, when the powerbooks and powermacs are expected to debut.

Are you fucking stupid? Did you already miss the FIRST POST IN THIS THREAD where it said I was sick of having to do that. Or maybe you missed the last line in that same post where it said I already made up my mind about getting a mac. Obviously reading comprehension is not an admissions requirement or even a "deans list" requirement at Purdue. My comp is now 4 years old and in that time Ive done everything I could to prevent shit happening to my computer. Yet sure enough about once a year Ive got to deal with some lame ass windows bullshit. I run spybot, and adaware everyday and Norton once a week with updated defininitions as well. Same shit still works its way back onto my machine. With macs this isnt a problem. I wont even have to run spybot anymore, let alone deal with shit like I am now.
