Wasn't it Grassroots Motorsports? A 325ic would definitely be interesting...
Edit:
"You may remember the Ultimate Streetcar Challenge from the heyday of Sport Compact Car magazine. Editors Dave Coleman and Josh Jacquot (now Senior Road Test Editor at Inside Line) created the event to find out which reader-built cars were the real deal. The car had to do more than just go fast in a straight line, they had to stop, run a road course and be usable on the street too.
That event ended with the magazine's unfortunate demise years ago, but a similar event has taken up the cause. Dubbed the Optima Batteries Ultimate Streetcar Invitational, the modern version pits the best of the aftermarket tuning crowd in a similar contest of speed, handling and all around driveability."

My name is Daryl, yes that was my white 89 325ic with the hardtop.
I think I did pretty well considering the next lowest hp car had probably 3x my stock M20. And most importantly for me, I beat a coworker in his C6 Corvette (haha).
At the qualifier at Road America (the one that aired last weekend) there were 2 guys with M3s that did very well, one Matt Jomojedny 2003 M3, did very well and did qualify for the OPTIMA Ultimate Street Car Invitational.
Here's a link to the results.

We've been trying to get more euro cars, but haven't been getting a whole lot of participation at the qualifiers and unfortunately a lot of the euro cars at SEMA are more appearance than performance oriented.
If anyone has a car that they'd like us to take a look at during SEMA let me know!Last edited by ilmostro; 10-25-2012, 08:00 AM.

I miss that magazine. I used to have a subscription to it for about 5 years. I remember when they were testing the Integra Type R's, the Sentra Spec V's, the WRX's when they came out, then the Evo's. I loved that mag since it was more about function than anything else. I remember the one where they kept removing parts from a car to see how fast it could be just by weight reduction. THey eventually had just a frame and wheels with a motor.
I also remember when they bought a 323 GTX in Utah and drove back home to make it one of their rally projects. One of my friends here had one like it.
Oh yeah, and their Datsun 510 rally beater.
Man, i really miss that mag.
