    Eurotrip places to visit?

This June my cousin is getting married in Tuscany, Italy. We're trying to figure out where else to go in Europe while we're there. We'd rather not have to fly all over the place once we're there though. I think we'd like to go to Germany some kind of beer festival as well and take a train down south and go to Tuscany for a couple of days, Greek Isles for a day or two. There will be a couple of parents with us, Amsterdam is a no-go.

Any suggestions on places in Germany & Greek Isles to visit? Anywhere else in that area of the continent?

I would honetly take in some of the more historical aspects of old europe. Old Europe Arc. is awesome... stuff you'll never see here in the USA. But I enjoy shit like that.

          and just for good measure.

          Hey!!!!!!

          Scotty doesn't know,
          That Fionna and me,
Do it in my van every Sunday.

She tells him shes in church,
          But she doesn't go,
Still shes on her knees, and...

          Scotty doens't know, oh.
          Scotty doesn't know-oh.

          Fionna says shes out shopping,

          Cuz Scotty doesn't know,
          Scotty doesn't know,
          Scotty doesn't know,

          So don't tell Scotty.
          Scotty doesn't knoooooow....
          DON'T TELL SCOTTY!

          I can't believe he's so trusting,
While I'm right behind you thrusting.

Fionna's got him on the phone,
and she's trying not to moan.
          It's a three way call,
          and he knows nothing.
          NOTHING!!!

          Scotty doesn't know,
          Scotty doesn't know,
          Scotty doesn't know,
          Don't tell Scotty.
          Cuz Scotty doesn't know,
          Scotty doesn't knoooooow....
          SO DON'T TELL SCOTTY!

What a show, everyone will go.
          Scotty doesn't know,
          Scotty doesn't know,
          Scotty doesn't knoooooow....

          The, parking lot, why not?

Schwangau in Southern Germany is beautiful. Home of the Neu Schwanstein Castle. Munich of course has many many sites. If you are really serious you could also check out the BMW factory while you are there. Then theres of course Berlin and Frankfurt. I live in Schweinfurt... not much to see here, but in Wurzburg there is a ton of GREAT sites. I love that city..... a large palace, a castle and a few really really old churches. Trier on the French border is supposedly a beautiful Roman influenced city. Heidelburg and Mannheim are also supposedly nice. Garmisch if you like the mountains. Kreuzburg if you want to try what Playboy calls "the worlds best beer".... and trust me.... It fuckin is. In June the monks will be out partyin with the drinkers. Stuttgart is a nice one also. There are so many places to see over here its amazing. I can't comment on anything outside of Germany as I haven't been. But what I have seen here is absolutely astounding. I definitely recommend Schwangau though.... Breath taking.

I went to amsterdam alot till i got caught coming back!!!! (j/k)you dont have to go to amsterdam to enjoy the smells of holland, all the big cities have great coffee shops. I recommend munich, it is very southern, so not far from italy, and alot there to do---BMW mobile tradition--if its not still closed for renovation. to me all of europe is the same pretty much--most of em stink and dont like to shower much. i live here now for 12 years, and can really only say, I love the way they build stuff in europe-- buildings are so interesting. just rent a car, and start driving anywhere. and just dont let the rudeness in germany bother you, its alot like R3V!!!!

                  Travel within Europe

I'm getting close to wrapping up places to visit in Europe. We're flying into Munich, then heading to Switzerland, then to Italy for a wedding, then probably back to Munich to fly back home.

Can someone give me some insight on getting around by train over there? Are they fast/slow/expensive/hastle/etc.? I've already heard not to go by sleeper train. Would we be better off getting rental cars (we'd need two)?
None of us have been to Europe before, so we're kind of feeling our way through this.

                  Thanks guys.

Train is totally cool, to be honest I wouldn't really consider driving... gas costs like, 4x what it does here and trains put you right into the middle of wherever you're going.

Plus you can relax, eat and drink beer, play cards, check out the scenery and yap with australian tourists.

The trains in germany/switzerland are generally clean, run all the time on time, and go everywhere, esp in switzerland (they have train service to the top of friggin mountains, for example).

Just make sure you get a timetable and understand how you read it, and buy your tickets at the ticket counter (not on the train).

I recommend you pay with american express if you have it, you will (on average) get less schtupped than changing money from dollars to euros + back to dollars on return. (on average) amex does a good job on the exchange rate, relative to crappy forex airport kiosks.

i did the whole back pack thru eruope thing with my brother 2 years ago, we went from Glasgow Scottland to Madrid with virtualy no money, stayed in hostles, hitch hiked, hoped a few trains. It was a cool trip, but probly a way differnt experiance than you will have in the south. You will be in Italy so try and go sailing!

You HAVE to visit Florence. And monte Carlo, its a trip up the coast but a MUST SEE. Ferrari's are literally like Hondas, they get common. And lets not even get started on the women.

Trains can be both cheap and expensive AND slow and fast. In Germany they offer city to city express trains that are fairly expensive. For a one way trip for one person from my town (1 1/2 hour drive) to Frankfurt its 33 euro on the "fast" train that takes about 2 hours. The normal trip is 18 euro and takes 4 1/2. If you have the time and don't mind sleeping on the train you can take a regular train (non sleeper.... reg passenger train) and travel anywhere. When I went to Octoberfest I stayed at the party til it closed, walked to the train station and crashed there on my backpack til my train showed 5 hours later.

If you are anywhere near Wurzburg/Schweinfurt/Bamberg you should consider looking me up.
