Waited 2 hours for gas today, drove up to the pump and the asshole decided he "ran out" then proceeded to gas up all three of his own cars that were on the station.

Left the house last night at about 830p, went West towards Morristown thinking it would be better to find a gas station, found one in Springfield on Rt 22 and sat there for about three hours only to find out that they ran out of gas. So pissed i decided to just go home and jumped on the parkway by exit 140 and noticed another line so i said fuck it and got on it. Took another 3 hours of waiting but i finally gassed up! Got home at 3am!

Woke at 730a today to my friend texting about a gas station in Englewood on rt 4 that was open with a short line so i decided to take my other car there. Only waited about 1.5 hrs so not too bad. Only thing thspat sucked is that they only had plus and a $40 max.

And then someone on facebook gave me another tip this evening of another station opened in Ridgefield on rt 46 so i took my third car there and filled up no max.

Glad to report all three cars are filled up. For good measure i may go tomorrow and fill up a container.

Im posting here because of the anonymity this forum can provide. I feel I can't show this weakness anywhere else as everyone is so fragile and hurt in my area.

I live in a shore town that is considered to be part of the epicenter of all of the damage in NJ. Even though its small in comparison to any of the other heavily poulated areas, I speak only of the damage that has been done.

I type this in tears, I type this in complete and utter depression and sadness. Through out the storm I was awake for most of it and finally fell asleep around 3am and awoke at 7:30. I left my girlfriends house, which happens to be a bit inland compared to the shore area of my town, to try and get to my house which is closer to the water.. We didn't suffer any damage, but as soon as I left the neighborhood. I realized, this storm really did a number on the area and I could not believe my eyes. I expect some broken trees and signs, no power and what not. But I did not expect to see flooding so far inland on a few highways and roads.

I visited a few friends that day in emergency panic mode to see if they were ok. Turns out most of my friends and family are only without power, except for my gf's grandfathers house being destroyed by a tree. But to see my community almost completely destroyed and the beaches I grew up on demolished it really hits me hard.

The beach I learned to surf at, age 11, was pretty much wiped. Almost all of the sand is down to the packed sediment. Sand lines the roads from the ongoing plowing. Almost 15ft high on both sides of the roads. Not to mention the sand is mixed with sewage, debris, and garbage. Every plank of boardwalk the eye can see is gone. I saw large pieces almost two miles in land when I visited.

My cousin took a ride in his boat down one of my major inlets and told me he didnt go above a few knots the whole time to avoid hitting any sunken boats. The inlet I'm talking about is the Manasquan inlet. He drove through a few places to see the extent of the damage. Famous patches of lands or mini islands are now garbage dumps, oil/gas sheens are all along the docks and marinas.

Dead bodies are found in the sand when they plow the streets. Houses are completely gone. Entire neighborhoods are completely gone.



I don't know if I can ever visit my beloved beaches ever again without noting the damage from Sandy simply because every building has to be rebuilt. Some barrier islands may have to be permanently evacuated, this is something they haven't announced yet. But it doesnt take a genious to understand this once they lay their own eyes on the extent of the damage themselves.

Millions are still in the dark and cold, hundreds of thousands are without a home. Most likely for atleast a year.

I spoke to a few people who are doing repair work for various utilities, and all of them said expect two years minimum. Every electric line, every water and gas pipe, ever road, sidewalk and house has to rebuilt.


How the fuck am I supposed to deal with this? I work with the general public and have already witnessed a few of my customers break down and cry. I normally don't pray or even rely on god to help me with things, but right now it would be a blessing to find some strength and direction.


That is all since I cant type anymore without losing it.

Wow, that's just horrible.

I don't know what part of the shore you're from, but I've heard the same about the barrier islands being permanently evacuated too. I forget which one it was, either lavalette or somewhere on LBI, was going to be evacuated for 8 months! That's a long ass time without a home.

I'm feeling really lucky that my house is even still there. Haven't checked it out yet since they're not letting anyone on the island, but it doesn't look like my neighborhood got hit as hard as others, at least from what I see on here: http://ngs.woc.noaa.gov/storms/sandy/

Not enough fingers and toes on my hands and feet to count all of the individual families I know personally who fit into one of those categories.

Any humor on this subject is down right shameful and quite embarrassing.



I live in Brick but from some word of mouth as well as various official articles and announcements. All barrier towns from Bay Head to Seaside will be closed permanently for "6-8" months. All utilities, (water, gas, electric) will have to be completely rebuilt. Every road, sidewalk, telephone pole, water tower, electric substations and transformers all have to be rebuilt/replaced.

Nothing is being repaired.


Something tells me it will not be finished in 6-8 months.
