I don't know where to start (Hurricane Sandy Wreckage)
on the insurance note, I hope most of these people had flood insurance. Because if not, many are in a world of hurt!
my family does for my house, but i can pretty much guarantee all the people on my street that flooded dont. The high water has never even been in the street before, much less 3 feet of it. FEMA may be able to cover some, but not all the damages :(

Worst part is, a lot of insurance companies have clauses that alter your policy in the event of a natural disaster. I heard some peoples deductibles that were $500 became %15 of their homes value.

This is the worst.
But actually, SO FAR, the weather center (or whoever makes these rulings) is calling Sandy a Tropical somethingorother. So instead of a "hurricane" deductible of 15% of your house, it still may be the regular deductible. BUT, im sure that wont hold up. We'll see.
This happened twice to my area the last two years. I personally have been fine from where my house is located(up high on a hill). I volunteer my construction skills to help gut damaged houses.
