    School me on crossbow?

So my ex had a nice talk with me last night, and explaned when zombie day comes, ammo will be nice but after the first few weeks, ammo will be in short supply, and hella expensive. so

sHe told me scrap the Glock and buy a crossbow. What you killers think?

    can i reuse the bows?

It will take more than a decade for there to be a short supply of .223 or 7.62, even with zero production.

I think your ex just has the hots for Daryl from Walking Dead. A crossbow is cool and all but even crossbow bolts will eventually become scarce. In the end it is best to find a good melee weapon you are comfortable with. Not ammo to to worry about.

I would take a Glock with 100 rounds in my pocket vs a crossbow with 10 bolts on my back. There are advantages to crossbows but there is no edge with a firearm with a pocket full of ammo.

9mm will never run out lol... Probably a couple trillion rounds in the us alone. Id do a glock 19 and a m14 rifle myself, with a machete and kabar knife for close quarters.

As a bow hunter primarily, and as much as I hate Glocks, I totally agree with this. I know there are plenty of others besides my self an dub on here we could supply most of this website with 5.56, 7.62X51, and 45acp for a long long time during the Zombie apocalypse.

If your prepared you dont have to worry about running out of ammo ;) (and can make your own) crossbow bolts will be much harder to come by than ammo and much harder to make ones that will work in a compound cross bow, and not blow up in your face when you send one.

A crossbow would work in certain situations, and it wouldnt hurt to have one around. They are quiet and can hit an enemy from a distance, which is very crucial at times.

Other than that, have you ever shot one? Reloading a crossbow is a pain in the ass. The reusability of the bolt might only be 50%, as they can break against trees and rocks when you fire them. Not to mention the worry of how the disease spreads. If it simply takes the transfer of zombie blood or mucus into your bloodstream for you to become infected, I wouldnt touch a bolt that had just flown through a zombies head.

right, on the show, one minute he shoots a zombie, the next he's holding it in his mouth, the next he's shooting dinner with it. I didn't see any disinfectant.

                      This.

I worked at Nosler for about a year and our goal for 1 day was 350,000 bullets. That's PER DAY. And we met it and generally exceeded it everyday.

Crossbows do have the quiet factor though. That's always nice.

7.62x54R = $70 for 440 rds. A Mosin to fire it won't be much more expensive. Archaic, but easy to clean and nearly indestructible. Plus if you do run out you could use it as a club.
