While alot of R3V live up there, some do not. We haven't been back to the PNW since we lived in Sacramento in 06, so thanks to the Top Gear episode, my wife decided it was time to go back there.
The plan:
Fly to Portland, stay for two days, drive to SF along the coast.
What happened:
The plan + so much more.
If you have the means, do this. It is awesome. Portland is absolutely beautiful, even when it's gloomy (I will say there is ALOT of white people there, it's crazy how white it is).
The West Coast cannot be beat as far as views go. There is almost no comparison to the coastal views out there to the coastal views out here. I would say maybe New England, but it's a stretch. 7+ hours of winding roads and rugged coastline will amaze you. Every turn brings a totally different view of the ocean. There are spots that are secluded, small towns that are great to stop and fart around in, and small breweries/ wineries litter the 101 and PCH all the way down. The drive to SF is amazing, even in a Ford Fusion. Here is the breakdown.
Saturday through Monday: Stayed in Portland and did all the touristy stuff IE Doughnuts, Burnside, Rose Gardens, Fine Dining, Boutique hotels.
Tuesday through Friday: Drove to SF with many stops IE Astoria, Pacific City, Redwood Forest, Elk Ca, B&B's along the way.
Friday through Sunday: Shagged around SF to our favorite spots.
Here are the pics in no particular order.
