I was going to be an architecture major, til i looked at the current market of architects. A lot of them in my area have no jobs. The construction business has been taking a huge turn in the way the process is done. I decided to switch to a building science major since its new and in demand.
good luck to you.I don't even own this car anymore, but I'm too lazy to change the picture.

Ill quote myself on this one.

Just because there course skimmed the surface of structural engineering and drafting they think they know how to engineer and draft when in fact that know fuck all. The amount of fuck ups I have had to fix due to Architects is ridicules, at one point in my career it took up 1/3rd of my time.
The worst part is that they try to tell me that I am wrong, bunch of snobby, glasses wearing, butt fuckers, who think they are awesome cos they drive around in there new mini's and use apple products
The only thing Architects should be allowed to do is, draw pretty pictures. Everything else should be left to the professionals.
Otherwise they can go suck a big one.
P.S I have changed my settings to 40 posts per page, oh my fucking god it is so awesome.sigpic

I studied Architecture then I had to defer so I could have a knee reconstruction in September and I'm switching to Construction Management next semester.
Too many sleepless nights just to have your designs torn to shreds by the markers (who are architects). I don't like how many of the universities actually teach the curriculum- They encourage new, original, unique and far out designs, but also call you out for making a design that isn't to their liking. Design is way too subjective to 'mark' or 'grade'. I found it's rather cold and not really rewarding unless you reach the pinnacle of the discipline- This is just my experience from the last 4 years of working and studying in Architecture. Also, atm it isn't celebrated as art or encouraged as it is in Europe, well that's the way it is in Australia anyway.
Also, Massimo is 100% right. I had to correct many of the head architects mistakes while at a firm. Made for awkward times...Tim.

Im in complete agreement with Massimo. This is the exact reason why a lot of architects dont have jobs. No more "design with intent" bullshit. The construction process is changing to become more efficient and cost friendly. This has been reforming an architects purpose. If you want to be an architect, stay connected with the times. Be able to adapt and adjust, or youll get canned quick.I don't even own this car anymore, but I'm too lazy to change the picture.

Massimo: im sorry for your loss. dont forget to hate. and your forgetting about the whole social aspect of designing a building, which engineers cant ever do with their math brains.
tg318: ive never been called out for something not being to their liking. its all about having a good reason relating to the design statement of the building for everything. i agree its too subjective to grade. i get graded on how well i execute my own ideas for the most part.
spike: for sure you have to stay with the times architecture and the building process as well as materials, needs of people and all that good shit is of course constantly changing. shouldn't you be connected with the times no matter what your profession is?
