    R/C Helicopters

    Edumacate me.

Always wanted to get into them. So I bought a el cheapo indoor tiny thing for 25 bucks, and after a few days of messing with it, I am harassing cats and landing on the dinner table between place setting.

Any one know anything or have any advice. Kinda wanting to stick to the indoor thing for now, but maybe get a single main rotor and a little bigger than this thing I have now. I think I may have been bitten by another expensive hobby bug UGHHH

Check out the Blade RC's. Semi-cheap to get started, and parts are readily available.

I had a CP Pro, it was fun as hell, but very unforgiving. You are correct, expensive hobby.

Heli's are most likely the most expensive of the R/C hobbies, but IMO also one of the most rewarding. Very fun to fly, very satisfying to build and maintain, and also extremely frustrating when it goes wrong. I'd look online for some heli forums, there is a wealth of knowledge in there. I'd look into Align models, very well machined parts. Glad to see another R/C helicopter pilot on here! PM me if you want to get more in depth, I've been in this hobby for a while and have spent more time/money in it than I care to admit.

Do not start off with anything over 4ch and do not attempt a 3D. Learn on the cheap fixed pitch heli. I made the mistake of buying something expensive with many moving parts and thought I would learn to advance. It ended up costing me 3x the actual cost of the heli in just parts to rebuild. When things are spinning that fast even with just 3ft over the ground would basically demolish the heli in just one f up.

this is what I got, found it for 25 bucks IIRC at TJ max of all places. I have gotten kinda good a chasing the cats off the table and couch with it, one did get a paw on the skid and waded it up on the floor.

Not my photo but you get the point. I still bang into walls and shit but I want a single rotor fixed pitch 4ch that I can just swap batteries out and keep flying.

During high school I used to occasionally hang around with a chick that was ugly as fuck but had some interesting hobbies. Including a few of the large wooden blade rc heli's. Pretty cool, but super expensive

I was looking at some of the Android controlled ones today while dealing with phone problems at the cellphone store.

IMO it is easiest to learn on the bigger heli's as the rotation is slower. However something proper sized to learn on like a .90 size will set you back easily $3-5k if you are starting with nothing.

Best investment is an RC flight sim, I preferred Realflight due to it's support. Once you start doing the real thing, get involved in a club and have someone train you, especially helpful if you buy a TX with trainer functionality so your teacher can HOPEFULLY pull you out of a bind.

Used to fly those mini helis drunk. Much fun. I always look at them, but can't bite the $25 bullet. Unless it has batteries & shoots plastic missiles not interested.

As for real helis. Good luck. I run r/c cars/trucks & they can get expensive as is. I rather enjoy watching the old farts play with their flying contraptions. I personally enjoy watching jets

Upon some further reading it seems my "off brand" is really a syma s107g in re boxed from. I am getting to where I can land in really tight spots. Also learning how to approach and compensate for the different ways the rotor wash affects the model when close to walls ceiling and different heights of furniture and how to anticipate it and still get it to do what I want it too. Was able to land it and take off again on the counter with all kinds of height differences and shit sitting there.

I know this thing is an easy flyer, just seems like I am fighting the gyro all the time and can only get good forward speed at 5 inches off the ground (thanks rotor wash)

Yes this is going to be addictive, and am already looking toward a small indoor Fixed pitch single rotor 4 channel bird..........
