    I hope you got that cheap, as a modern DL360 G7/G8 would whip that things ass.

    Plus the power requirements, yikes

              Dirt cheap. And thats sort of the point...nobody would take a new 8 processor server to make a dedicated chess computer...unless you had $5000 laying around doing nothing.

              Yup, its going to be a space heater, that for sure...and thats what we are hoping for. :)

                  It is pretty well known the strongest software out there right now Is Houdini 3.0 Pro in 64 bit. In fact, it won the chess computer tournaments easily for the past 4 years, however, it was discovered the author plagiarized some of the code, and the championships were retracted, however, as of October 17, 2012, Houdini still holds first place in the IPON ratings.

                  It is by far the most advanced and human-like program.

                    Okay, the office gave me a project table for the beast. RAM will be going in as soon as in hand.

                          Finished!

                          Heres is the beast booting up, showing the 32 gigs of RAM, and all 8 processors

                          Here it is starting the GUI;

                          After we activated the engine, here are all 8 processors running at 100% (its kicking out some heat now!);

                          And here is the monster crunching the numbers. The software see all 8 processor (circled in red), has reached a ply depth of 24 (circled in yellow) in just over 11 minutes! And it calculating plys at 2580 kN/s (circled in green), or over 5 million moves a second!

                              Only 32bit? I presume its mainly CPU intensive

                                Unfortunately yes. We thought the box's hardware was 64 bit compatible, but it was not.
