From my personal experience, you will be happier with a change in lifestyle. There are much healthier ways to stimulate your brain, as well as make you feel better physically. Don't make ADD an excuse.

I don't know your situation, of course, but I always try to remind myself of these things.
Exactly. Don't blame your lazy ass on some "disorder".

If you have problems reading, pick up a fuckin book more often. Just because you have the reading comprehension skills of a third grader, doesn't meen you need to take a bunch of drugs.

In all honesty man, you don't know what you are talking about. Everybody says that shit and they don't know anything about ADD. For me it is physically impossible to actually read a book. There are plenty of books that sound interesting to me and that I try reading but when I start my mind just wanders uncontrollably and I find that after reading a few pages, I haven't comprehended anything because my mind was in a different place the whole time. I also don't necessarily think it's a disorder, and I don't necessarily think drugs are needed to treat it. I think some peoples brains, like mine, just function differently. It's unfortunate that our world labels it as a disorder and only caters to those who don't have it.

Erik, you're an ignorant sack of shit talking out of your ass. My advice is shut your mouth and you won't look like a douchebag moron as often.

There's a lot of people with small issues of medical variety, and sometimes medicine takes care of them and makes everything cool. Should the fact people's bodies or even brains don't work exactly the same way make them a joke? Some people don't produce insulin correctly, and they suffer diabetes. Should we judge people for the fact they were born with juvenile diabetes?

Then why are you taking shit about people whose nerophenine levels are low or imbalanced in their brain?

And there are also a good number of ADD people who are intelligent, but just have trouble focusing, unless it's something very very interesting to them. Like the guy on F&F who "should have been going to MIT or some shit". Medicine which brings the brain into proper balance allows them to read and study, and be genius then in school, and make you look like a royal dumbass prick.

Is america overmedicated? yes. are some kids put on this stuff instead of disciplining the children or having them raised right? sure. But that is far from thinking the whole disorder is a joke.

Wow...if you ignore the first sentance, this is an amazingly well spoken and thoughtful paragraph!

Heeter, you are to be commended for speaking your mind about your mind.

lol, thanks. i do get upset when people are talking trash about something they are clueless on, especially when it's personal.

my ability to study always was dismal, although it never really hurt me because i was capable regardless and never needed to

but college was a challenge I couldn't handle, which is actually a pretty common thing i think. ADD really hurts you in a lecture hall or trying to read college textbooks where a small, more social classroom would be less of a stress

medicated, everything just seems right, which is the case for a lot of strattera users. either it's nothing or the best thing ever. no random thought-jumbling brainstorms, and the new ability to focus. makes sense as nerophenine is the neurotransmitter linked to attention

Why then can you focus long enough to create the above passage?

I submit someone gave you the idea you have an excuse for being the way you are (lazy) and you latched onto it like a coyote with a bone and now blame all your inadequacies upon it.

never had those problems. thinking like you mentioned went down. i felt more like myself without this burden on me.

                  you either need:
                  1) different meds
                  2) psych help (not clowning), i mean it
                  3) more exercise, more intrapersonal self-reflection

doesn't seem like it is doing its job right for you, and time probably won't fit it. there is a problem somewhere else, and you should fix that

i'd say go off it because you are probably just getting your attention tweaked up and that wasn't the problem to begin with. (i.e. like when Ken and other college students take aderoll: it's not a problem they have, but it still helps them focus)

talk to your doctor and see a shrink.

posting a paragraph response is a lot different than writing a paper; reading a forum about cars with short sentences and pictures is certainly different from reading a book

there are some people who will latch onto crutches and ride them for what they are worth. i.e. "glandual problem" fat people whose real real problem is never getting off the couch

and although no one is going to convince you, charlie, or anyone else of otherwise, it is clear that some mental health disorders do exist.

just as it is sure that drugs like cocaine, etc have effect on the brain, the brain's functions involve triggers. who is bold enough to say that everyone has the exact same amount and % of operational neurotransmitters? just like how some people are born with longer arms, bigger tongue, or taller or shorter, people come forth with slightly different brain physiology and chemistry. if we can develop drugs to cure or trear deficiencies, why should we label them as bullshit or cop-outs?

is there no trust or ability to believe? just because someone is not born with a physically apparant problem does not mean it does not exist

Im lazy and get distracted easily. My excuse is some sort of ADD, but you guys are totaly right in that its just an excuse. Drugs might help but you can't take aderol your entire life to make you quit being lazy. Although it might help in studying for tests.
