Well here's something interesting, I removed the GPU and returned it to Best Buy, and exchanged it for the same model, just a PNY instead of the EVGA, and the computer immediately recognized the PNY card and installed the drivers for it, but upon restart, I still have the same Code 34 error. What gives?

I should add, I am plugged into the new video card over VGA. I get picture plugged into the new card. If I plug into the on-board VGA, I get no video. The new card is functioning, just not properly, and I am totally stumped by this. Everything under the adapter type properties is <unavailable>

Hmm...manufacturer drivers right? Honestly at this point, if it is happening in such a way, I would resort to formatting and re-installing the OS. It sounds like there could be a registry error or something deeper that would be more of a hassle trying to solve. If a format and re-install doesn't fix it, then you already know it's hardware related. Maybe the slot the GPU is in is bad or not making a good connection.

The internet issue sounds like something to do with your router settings. Try connecting the computer directly to the modem to see if it connects then.

Going to try re-installing the OS now, don't think there's anything else I can do from within the current install.

          no, it does not.

he can use the internet from whatever device he's on now.

router's fine, problem is localized to this asus computer.

This. Every other internet-capable device in the house is functioning properly.

You're putting a PCIe 2.0 graphics card in a PCIe 1.0 slot. It's fucking up when it requests more juice because the spec was doubled in the later versions. Pretty sure, anyway.

Remove your videocard and get it running through the onboard graphics. If your code 34 still happens, there's something much more sinister afoot.

For the other thing, sounds like you don't have a valid IP configuration. Ensure you've got DHCP enabled and working correctly (probably restart the router for good measure), do an ipconfig /release followed by an ipconfig /renew in a cmd window. Win7 also has a troubleshoot feature in the Network and Sharing Center.

A PCIe 2.0 card will work just fine in a 1.0 slot. They are backward-compatible.

How is everything else in the unit? It has a very small power supply it seems. Also are you running 32 or 64bit? Did you go through and check all of your settings in the bios per manufacturer recommendations? Check you clocking for ram and GPU etc.

And like recommended I would suggest reformatting the unit.

EDIT: sorry I forgot you upgraded the PS.

Still nothing on either front. Re-installed Windows, and I still get the Code 34 error on the graphics card, and no internet. Rebooted the modem/router, still nothing on the desktop, internet on all other devices.

I do not understand this one bit.

Is it code 34 or 43? Does it give you information on the code?

Different codes can be communicated by different components in the PC and could provide more information.

Have you gone into the bios and set the settings for the GPU manually?

Sorry, Code 43. It just says "Windows has stopped this device because it reported problems. (Code 43)"

Not sure how to configure the GPU in the BIOS, never had to do that before.

Can you pull up the Bios and give me the settings for the GPU/Ram etc? Is everything clocked within spec?

Also on boot up go into the bios and run a system check. The error code 43 could be caused by another faulty component/driver on the PC. Let me know if you get any other issues. Also check through your boot priorities. Make sure they are set correctly.

Nothing has been overclocked, but here's what I can find:

                                Total Memory: 4194304K

                                PnP/PCI CONFIGURATIONS

                                Reset Configuration Data [Disabled]
                                PCI/VGA Pallette Snoop [Disabled]
                                PCI latency Timer [64]

                                **PCI Express Relative Items**
                                Maximum Payload Size [4096]

That's all I could find that seemed relevant. Can't find where to do a system check in the BIOS.
