Focal speakers are above your budget. I helped my brother purchase and set up a Focal Chorus system and he's currently running the front towers with the Emotiva UMC-200 pre/pro and Musical Fidelity A308 amplifier. If I were you, I'd buy the best 2.0 or 2.1 setup that you can afford, and then buy the center and rears later on. For movies and stereo music, the front left and rights are the most important speakers, followed by the center, and the surrounds.

Yeah revising budget to peice together a system over the course of a year... just orderd onkyo 616 and am thinking of jumping on these

Marantz, Yamaha, KEF, Focal, Polk, Def Tech, Denon, Bowers & Wilkins, Home Theater, Speakers, Receivers, HDMI, Onkyo, Pioneer, Klipsch

but I cant find any dealers in my area.Dont want to deafly purchase speakers so I am leaning towards the psb t6's and an svs sub for starters.

Jaywood that looks like a pretty sweet sounding setup

Zoom I am thinkingthe samething. I would be much happier going slow but quality

I'm running Paradigm Monitor 7s for my fronts, Paradigm Phantom V2.0s for my surrounds a Paradigm PDR 10 sub and a Design Acoustics center channel (the weak point of the system, but it works.) The head unit is an Onkio TX-DS484 that is about 10 years old. The room my system is in is WAY too small, but when I live in a 1 bedroom 300 sq foot apartment, there isn't much I can do about it.

In my opinion, your speaker needs are different if you are looking to listen to music or watch movies. With music alone you will have different needs depending on what sort of music you listen to. I listened to a lot of different speakers before going with the Paradigms. I tried Martin Logans, NHTs, the super high end Paradigms, Infinitys, Boston Acoustics, even a pair of $25K speakers whose cabinets were carved out of solid granite (I wish I could remember who made them.) Each of those speakers was 600 lbs. Its very surprising how the same piece of music will sound vastly different depending on what speakers its played through. In my case, the NHTs sounded fantastic for half the music I listed to, the other half they were terrible. I bought the Paradigms because they were the best for the widest range of music I listened to (anything from classical to jazz to Nine Inch Nails and some techno/trance.) The secret to building a great sounding system is take a few movies and various CDs (NOT MP3s) and listen to them at the store. If its a decent audio store they have a room set up with all the speakers they carry and you can do just that.
