    2) You said the duramax is prone to HG failures, and while they do have a few (mostly form turned up and hot roded) and poorly maintained examples its nothing compared to a early ford 6.0

    3) Do you even own a Diesel or just your friends? I DO, I have for years and grew up with them. I have had my share of BB Chevys as well. I know what it costs to maintain diesels and when you are doing it properly it adds up to much more than equivalent gassers. If we didnt drag heavy ass horse trailers around form time to time I would own a Pair of Yukon's

    4) I agree a diesel has the potential to far out last a working gasser. But you have to maintian them and they are more maintenance heavy than any gasser, and much more costly, to do so. Shure you can tweek and tune on them, but with modern ULS fuel you cant get much more than low 20's out of them, and thats hard on the injectors with the lower fuel flow, and lack of sulfur for lubricity they heat up and are prone to premature wear and failure. Parts alone for an injector job run close to 2k. When most newish gasers already push that 18-20 range with out having to put 500-1000 in mods on them to get there, and fuel running 60-90 cents cheaper per gallon used. You do the math

    5) lastly hes wanting to pull a fucking 2700lb car add in the weight of a decent car wagon and your right at 4300lbs. Thats well with in the GCVW of any 1/2 ton on the market, and anything newer than 02 will have plenty of brakes to stop that load even if the trailer brakes fail. The little woman drug my old E30 loaded to the gills with shit and her yukon full of shit across the country TWICE and hardly knew it was back there.

I agree I can put 10k on the back of my truck and I hardly even know its there and will march up the too the top of the pass with out breaking too much of a sweat and come back down the other side under control. EGTs when its 95* out push the limts some even on a 100% stock tune but that for a another thread.
So I guess you want him to get a Tahoe or Yukon huh...since you agree with that idea 100x lol

We could banter this shit all night and yes I have a diesel actually more than one. I guess one doesn't really count because its not my daily driver its a 15000lb International 4700 w/a century rolllback pushed by a DT466 w/a 6+1 spicer. I probably have forgot more than most people here know about them because I too was raised around them.

I also would take it by the way you discuss this with people u don't know, I probably have underwear older than you.

Unless your underwear dates to sometime in the 70's, you might want to rethink that argument.

If the dude wants a Diesel then fine so be it. But I am not going to recommend him one because he might occasionally drag around a 2700lb car on a open deck carrier. if you have a med duty, Detroit powered, International roll back then you should know that a 3/4 ton is going to be over kill for that purpose. Sure its nice but it would not justify the expense to do that once a year when its a DD the other 364 days a year

Look, a I dont care one way or another I just dont like to make an over kill recommendation that would cost the OP a pile of cash he does not need to spend to move a immobile e30 around, and he wants a god dammed SUV. Last time I checked only 1 ever came in a Diesel and those still command a huge premium and still require to the extra maintenance cost.

Who ever said Xterra has never really tired to tow 3500lbs + behind it. You dont "NEED" a 1/2 ton platform to drag an e30 around, but your going to WANT a 1/2 ton platform once you try it with that thing. And holds five what Children??? You can fit 5 COMFORTABLY a Tahoe and really at most we have in ours is 4, and in an xterra if you have 5 adults in it, someone is sitting on a lap in that thing

yay, me and sleeve agree on something!

fact is, there's no better vehicle to commute in than a big SUV. comfy, great sight lines, great A/C, fender benders simply don't matter. and fuck the gas mileage argument.. when you buy used, the gas costs will never meet up with the price of a new Leaf or even a leased Civic.

plus towing, maintenance costs, reliability, and fitting 5 people comfortably.. or even 7 on short trips.

get a tahoe or a yukon.

Its amazing how an opinion can get someone so wound up.

I'm only defending my opinion and your consistently inflecting yours, which I could careless about.

Even though yukons are for groceries, soccer balls, and cheerleading pompoms and that's my opinion deal with it.

Oh yeah and the International Navistar DT466 is not a Detroit diesel.

So if you want to continue to banter the subject start a new post. So this guy can continue to get OPINIONS on what he should get and not just yours.

Xterra was the worst idea on here. From the requirements, OP sounds like he needs a Ford Transit, but honestly who wants to drive one of those everyday.

How often do you intend to tow? You certainly should NOT get a vehicle duty built for towing ie. fullsize when a midsize or SUV will suffice and get you better mileage on the other 364 days you're not towing a vehicle.

I recently did a 300km trip with my 4.0L frontier towing a jetta on a heavy as shit uhaul open trailer and I had no issues. Would I want to make that a weekly thing? Not a chance, drive train simply isn't going to last nearly as long as a a full size dedicated to doing that. It does however do the job occasionally without so much as a hiccup and I get as far on 80L as the big boys do on 120. Up to you whether or not you wanna burn that extra fuel.

I do not intend to tow more then a hand full of times a year. I would prefer a SUV for comfort but i am not totally against a truck.

It would have to be a extended cab with a short bed if anyone wants to suggest any.

Something around the x5 size would be ideal for me as i feel like the yukon xl is a bit too big for me.

Ford Explorer Sport Trac. Find a first gen for 5K and dump the rest into your e30. I have 144000 on mine. Still runs like a champ, no big problems.

                        Like I have said SUV = Tahoe/Yukon

Truck any of the big the 3 in a 1/2 ton will meet your needs. or hell if you can find one in your price range the new turndas are about the best of the Import full size. If you want to go diesel in a 3/4ton, good luck with your price range in a lower mileage example, as per-emissions diesels are holding value well. I am a GM guy they tend to ride a little better, and have arguably the best power plant in the 4.8L/5.3L V8s in both maintenance, power out put, and fuel consumption. The 5.3 is a killer engine

I've have just started started looking around. I want a multipurpose DD. Big enough to carry motor in the back and be able to tow an e30 on an open trailer. Yet still have seating for minimum of 5 people. I prefer a SUV.

I have only looked at the 4.4l x5's but what do you guys recommend?
Do not buy an e53 X5.
