    studded tires

Who's rockin them on their E30?
I am. It's 45* outside. The "New Jersey Winter" simply is not going to happen. And I am regretting every single moment of studded tire ownership.

Not studded, but I did purchase winter tires for snow season, which has not happened for the past two seasons. Waste of money. Then again, my all-seasons were bald anyways so I guess these can be the replacements.

Have a set for my E36 why? They are loud and squirelly on dry roads. Currently just rock some snows. Yesterday we had 6" and two weeks prior we had 8" so we have snow just no ice.

I had gotten the tires for free and shop offered to stud them so I said yeah. I want to play Ice racer this year. Boston Chapter used to have ice auto-x. Stan Jackson passed away a few years ago I think it hasn't been resurrected yet. Great guy Stan was.

I am. They're noisy, but in the snow I've seen so far, it makes starting off a lot easier.

Don't studded tires make it so you can turn better in the snow?

Why would you run studded snows in Jersey??? I didn't even run them when I lived in Montreal. If regular snows are good enough for Canadian winters, they're more than enough for NJ!

There are different types of snow. There's a huge difference between a base layer of ice with a thick layer of dry/powdery snow on top (i.e., the Laurentian Mountains of Quebec) and a bunch of sloppy/wet slush on top of a regular road (i.e., NYC metro area).

Studs are designed to work well on sheer ice and hard-packed snow. In all other conditions, they have less grip than regular snow tires.

lol I don't even bother with snow tires in jersey winters. It just gets really cold here. That's it.

I forgot to say that I snowboard so whenever I happen to travel to Vermont or anything, it's always snowing. Can't chance getting stuck in a ditch 400 miles away from home.

Studded snows have saved me more than once. Yes, they're noisy in the dry. No, you don't need them if all you have is snow, not ice. But in the wintry freeze/thaw/freeze/thaw that we get in the Mid-Atlantic states, I don't regret having my Nokian Hakkapeliittas studded. The only thing that came close was a set of Green Diamond retreads with the crushed carbide bits molded throughout the rubber. Quiet, smooth, very good in the snow, excellent on the ice.
