So im buying an 05-06 gsxr1000 aka k5 bodystyle. I only want a k5 and only in blue and white. That being said its super hard to find a clean one in the bay area here. So I took my search down through LA. Ive only ever purchased 2 cars ever and they were in person. My question is, should I travel down to Vista, ca which is a 7 hour drive and pick it up make sure all is right and ride 7 hours back in the middle of a cold spell. Or have them ship the bike up here for probably close to the price of gas and a rental car that id have to pay for anyways? Anybody ever do this type of thing?

Fly/bus down; ride home. As it's a dealership, they should be able to get the paperwork done for you on the spot once you press the button, right? You just get your insurance in order/on hold and ready to go.
I have driven Maryland to Michigan for bikes before, as well as MD to NJ (not so far). But in those cases, I drove my pickup and - well - picked them up.

Unless it's been down (and even then) it's most likely just fine.
Bikes are generally indestructible. Especially with only 6k miles on it.
I put 25k on my '04 R6 in just over two years, sold it to a friend (the bike had been down twice, once hard enough to SHATTER seat sub-frame) and last I heard it was still running shifting perfect with over 40k miles.........lots of those miles at the track or being beaten like a red-header step child on Arkansas back roads.
About the only problem it's likely to have is leaky fork seals if it was wheelied constantly by a noob. Even then, have them rebuilt with better synthetic oil and ride it.Need parts now? Need them cheap? steve@blunttech.com

I would ride it back.
A few extra warming layers + warming gloves under your gloves. As long as you take a few breaks to give your wrists/back a rest you'll be fine. What are you going to pay?
I'll be honest I'd assume there would be more of that same exact bike closer to you for sale by private parties.
