who is framiliar with these jeeps

strongly considering this to knock around in. it's a 2.5- 4 banger. can anyone fill me in on their dependability, robustness? the engine is an amc, not a chrysler. truck is clean with no rust at all. 4x4 works as it should and over all is a really clean truck. i would just like to here from a few that know this model year.

That seems like a great price. The 4cyl is gutless and gets poor mileage, but otherwise they are solid rigs. Bear in mind that they have a unibody (like the Cherokee), not a true body-on-frame like most trucks.

Check carefully for under body rust, most of these have already rotted away in New England.

thanks for the reply. i know it will be slow, but hey, i drive an eta so i'm used to that. no rust at all. i was concerned about how hearty these engines are. are they like my eta, slow as hell but bullit proof? it has no tics or taps and starts right up. drives tru till 55 mph when she gets a front end wobble ( the tie rods ). goes away at 65 mph. super clean interior 8.5 on a ten.

From what I've heard from my Jeep fanatic brother, the 2.5L is a stout motor, but tend not to be as long lived as the later 4.0L six.

Pretty much exactly what has been said. 2.5 will run forever. Just not fast or efficiently. -I knew a guy who had nothing but issues with his. But he was an idiot and bought it with pre-existing problems.

Xj's are awesome and this is pretty closely related.
