when i said 12 lived and 1 died, i might have messed up...+
I'd like to jump in here but I'm not sure if we're supporting Bush or not and I thought the point is to share our respects for the lost miners. I used to spend my summers in Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, a place where the only sources of income are mining and fishing and both could lead to tragic deaths. What most impressed me is the kind of strenth the families have to be able to say goodbye to daddy every morning and not know if he'll be home for dinner. The kind of history that builds up around mining towns is amazing.
As for Bush, I didn't vote for him, I wouldn't vote for him, but for christ's sake he's just a single human being and not the personification of evil as some PETA/ACLU hippes would have you believe. (That said he's just a single human being who happens to control the fate of the richest, most powerful country in the world. Not to mention he has a huge establishment behind him to do his every bidding.) The fault lies with Mr. Bush because he has FAILED to do anything about the issues that everyone blames on him but to say they're his fault is absurd.
Yes I'm a liberal and yes I'm saying liberals are dumbasses but don't get me started on conservitives.
The reason nothing happens any more is because each side has gone so far to the extreme that no one can agree anymore. I think the only way we can TRULY protest these days is if a married, fur-wearing, homosexual has an abortion while cutting down a tree in a protected forest. That'll show 'em.
Evidently what happened was a rescue worker found a note saying that 12 were alive and had walked away from the explosion. They relayed this to the surface and it was communicated to the families.
However, they discovered later that the miners had survived the explosion but not the CO in the mine.
