Or you could look in your mirror every time you stop or put on the brakes like i do. I assume everyone is going to run over me and remove their opportunities. The amount of spacial awareness it requires to stay safe on a motorcycle is immense. Not every one wants to put that much work into it and you reap what you sow.

That wouldn't have happened if they weren't on motorcycles.

You can't always escape. I do agree it requires an immense amount of preparation to at least try and not kill yourself.

This. People pick up a crotch rocket and take a class at the local community collage and BAM! I'M THE FUCKING MAN. They're more into looking cool than looking out for other people.

Motorcycle riding is fun. Safe....IMO not so much. You're a bag of flesh with a motor between your legs. There is no "cage" around you as in a car. May as well be walking down the street.

In my car I always look in the rear view when stopping at a red light. Isn't it common sense for a rider as well?

OP, get some SIDI's. I also used to ride with a hard back protector I wore under my jacket vs the thin armor in the jacket.

                This.

You need to stay in 1st with clutch pulled at a stop, at least until you have a few cars stacked up behind you. I also find it's safer to pull in to the right, toward the dividing line, since a panicked driver's instinct as they glance up from their texting will be to pull away from oncoming traffic. Also, the gap between your side and the oncoming traffic almost always offers a better escape route.

The rest of it is to ride as if you were invisible and everyone were out to kill you.

                Ride safe, enjoy your bike.

Should be. As well as leaving the bike in 1st if a quick getaway is needed.

I used to go to a deserted industrial park every 2-3 weeks to practice threshold/panic breaking etc.

I put over 25k street miles in a few years and never even had a close call. If you ride properly and "agressively defensive" riding a motorcycle can be relatively safe.
