I came to this thread to enjoy OP's new bike. Not even a page in, it turned into silly bickering over motorbike health and safety. Please stop.
OP: Nice bike. I want it.

Im always scanning my mirrors when stopped at a light when nobody is behind me for that EXACT reason. I am prepared to either dump, accelerate, or move out of the way.

And even on the roadway...if traffic in front of me suddenly slows, I will move onto the berm in case the guy behind me is "inattentive". Ive even seen cars practice this maneuver...its all about being aware.

              Sorry your friends/family were not.

Nice bike. I had an '02 Telefonica Replica. Out of the Ninja, CBR, and my GSX-R, my GSX-R was the best handling bike. These are great bikes and they are "me too" bikes for a reason.

getting my forks rebuilt, fork seal must have just finally blew today because it was really wet when i got done riding, stiffer springs on front and rear to match my body weight, new fluids oil change and a dyno evaluation to see if the bike is running right with the pretty much straight pipe it has, because the last owner deleted the exhaust butterfly it throws a code wich can cause the bike to go into limp mode, thats an easy fix, if the factory ecu cant adjust for the pipe then im in for a power commander and tune. also the shop i took it to says i should send the fork seal job receipt to the [lace i bought it from, idk what do you all thinkdecided to go with this helmet shoei x-twelve reverb.

                          Nice bike!
I've been riding for 10yrs till I decided to give it up.

2 near death experiences and 4 deaths of good friends. 10+ injuries of good friends.
Thank God i didn't get injured.

Bikes can be safe. Loud pipes, flashing lights, gear'd up tight will save lives.

both experiences were due to others not seeing me. The first I was on a two lane interstate and an 18-wheeler waas in a rush. I was riding the limit (cops) and I was really enjoying the weather and view. 12-noon 70 degrees! so effing awesome!
The trucker decieded to pass me and the car in front of me. The car decided to get over in the same lane the trucker did do the trucker swerve into my lane sandwiching me into a guardrail. I pulled the brakes and hit gravel. Lowsided and steered my ass into the grassy shoulder. Ate through my kevlar jeans and turtle shell backback. Got back on my zx-6 and took off like it didn't happen.

second was in my e39 and a tundra ran a light and t-boned the fuck out of me @50mph. I didn't see him because of the large benz stopped where he was supposed to be sopped. If I was on a bike i'd be dead or in a position where i'd rather die.

I say that to say this, wether or not we are on a bike or in a car we can't control others around us. You just have to be proactive. cars are no safer than bikes.
Next bike I get will be track only. I vowed to my daughter i'd give up street riding until she gets married.

Everything you do in life has some sort of risk to it. From the time you get out of bed, to the time you go back to bed, risk factors are everywhere. Did you know your injury risk factor increases 400% when you get into a shower? Did you know it goes up 20 fold when you get into a car? Crossing the street? Thats right, highly elevated risk factor.

Why do skydivers wear a back-up chute? Why do airplanes have redundant ignitions? Why do we wear seat belts?

The point is what one can do to mitigate the risks involved when doing something "risky". Riding a motorcycle is no different than anything else, and there are TONs of things a rider can do to mitigate the risk.

InuFaye doesnt understand this. He places blame on the motorcycle, rather than the person. Yes I know the riders werent doing anything wrong, and were not at fault for the accident, but that doesnt mean those riders didnt mitigate the risk enough. I also understand most mitigation can be found through experience, so the course to HAVING that experience might be a tough road ahead.

Anyway, like most things that are physically fun, there is usually an associated risk attached to it. If its not your cup of tea, fine, but dont go around preaching death and physical harm on us.
