    Need to buy a TV

Looking for something in the 37"-40" range to put in the spare bedroom, wife is buying an elliptical (which I'll use when the weather is crummy).

Needs WIFI and Netflix built-in. Figure it will be easier to deal with if I can watch Top Gear re-runs, etc, instead of just staring at the wall.

    Any suggestions?

I am a big fan of the buy a slightly older model that is high end for about half the price of the latest and greatest. With the WiFi I also don't specifically see the need for it in the TV. Run through a nice smart DVE/BR and you will have a package cheaper than getting the best smart TV. Plus it is just something that can break and if it is external it is cheaper to replace then. Like built in DVD players just doesn't make sense.

Personally I have sony (47), LG (47), Vizio (32) and Samsung (32) all LCD or LED and really haven't noticed much difference between them in performance or quality.

Apart from sound quality and tiny differences in picture quality they're all the same. I'd go with anything LED just for the bulb life. For real though - sound quality on on these things has deteriorated tremendously. Most of them have down/outward facing crap speakers. I just bought one with front facing speakers and it still sucks.

As for wifi - just throw a wii on there. You can get an entire unit for less than the price difference between a smart tv and otherwise.

Pretty much the best 40" TV you will find for the money.

Maybe my eyes are different but there is huge differences in PQ between TVs. Plasma is still king in the flat panel world, but you cant get what you want in a 40" plasma.

It needs WIFI because we don't have cable TV and I'd rather just use the ease of hooking it into the WIFI router through the air vs running a cable.

I don't need a $900 TV for what is essentially "the workout room".

They're going to be bounching around and batting sweat out of their eyes. It's not going into a theater room. I'd just pick up the cheapest TV you can find and attach a wii...for real. I did that exact thing in my bedroom. I got a $200 32'' LED and have netflix/hulu plus and old nintendo games galore.

Well yeah if your just using it for that you wouldn't care about PQ, but pickup something like a Roku box and get 1080p netflix streaming plus a ton more.

Thanks for the amazing advice! Now go back to making poorly informed youtube comments.

                        Craigslist.

I got a 60" Samsung DLP for $25 with a new power board and a blown LED power board ($118 with $50 core). BOOM.

Look in the moving section. People practically give shit away, like TVs.

We bought a 42 Sharp LED with smart tv and WiFi for $550 ish through Sears online.

The Smart TV section sucks but the wifi and screen are awesome. I wouldn't bother with a smart tv because you can buy the google box to make a WiFi tv a smart tv cheaper and will have a full keyboard that way.
