      This thing.

Got this set for my Mom. She has blown up way too many desktops and laptops. So she just wanted to play her app's and watch TV from across the room. She lives in a Converted Factory so she has 16 foot walls and 12 foot windows. It's great the TV has no glare so she can watch it when it's bright plus being LED it's very energy efficient.

One of these, and a Roku box to go with it.

I'm just a glutton for punishment. If I see something I think I can fix, I'll get it. Worst thing to happen I'd be parting out a TV on ebay and making at least my money back, lol.

Now, a $350 part to fix my 55" rear projection (I got for free)....nah. That thing is history.

          I love used shit.

If you're not really partial to performance, then any model will do. However, for the most accurate color representation and darkest blacks, I would recommend finding a plasma. There are models that come with the features you want as well.

Also, shop around and read up on the current technology, although i'm sure you have. As a side note, most Consumer Electronics publications have similar views on Plasma TVs. Although, LED/LCD PQ has really improved over the years, I still wouldn't buy one though for myslef. I bought a LCD Westinghouse '42 after a little research at the time for my mother, for an LCD after i tweaked the settings a bit, it's actually impressive.

The display that i have ---> http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-20034816-1.html i believe cnet/consumer electronics and a few others still use to compare/test color detail and black level of other displays that are newly released.

z31maniac is going to watch mostly Food Network on this TV while exercising. So for cupcakes that nearly leap out of the screen, plasma will be the best choice.

I went thought this a while back, and it was going to be our good TV and our 1st delve into the Flat Screen HD TV forum.

We went with samsung after lots of research seemed to be the best mix of high quality, features, picture to our eyes and reasonable price though our 46" at the time was about 980 bucks on sale at costco.

I picked up a 82" Mitsubishi DLP for 1200 bucks a couple months ago.

Nah, we actually need a flat panel in the spare room.

Mitsu 65" DLP currently occupies the living room.

                              semi-retired audio/video phile here

For my eyes at the recent large showroom, the panny plasma's kicked butt.

I have upper middle class WAF to consider, so we bit the bullet and have one of the newer 65 inch Panny Plasmas with all the bells and whistles.

The sound in a large room is horrifying.

Back in the day I ran Sony G70 on 100 plus inch screen with HD content from a sat system and OTA through one of the early conversion Hughes boxes. It was spectacular, though dim by todays standards. I'm spoiled because I ran Brystons and B&W's etc with it, so sound was never an issue. Have not been able to rebuild the theatre room yet.

If there is a Panny in your size, the image with the Plasma, IMHO really was noticeably improved with much deeper contrast and true-er colors.

I'm told (not sure its true) that the Pioneer Elite tech guys were absorbed by the Panny company when that dissolved. I believe it.

If you're handy, I love the idea of repairing one of these, I noticed many online videos for DIY repairs of common problems, so specialized knowledge may not even be needed.

                              Good luck!
