    I hate my job.

This thread is intended for my personal rant about my job, and people can share their shitty stories if they so please.

I'm sure we've all had a crappy job, so here's my cool-story-bro story.

Since last December I've been working at a small family owned restaurant, initially I was excited because I wanted to see what the food industry was like. Their motto has always been, "Everyone does everything." What they mean by that is everyone helps out and pulls their weight to ensure things run smoothly, do all of the tasks. Do what is needed of you. I thought that was an acceptable philosophy in trade for the traditional way of having certain tasks that pertain to your position, or title. After all, it's a family business. Fair enough.

I started off doing dishes. Then I began serving food to the customers, clearing tables, answering the phone, taking orders, ect, ect... Fast forward a bit; things progressed and I've become very experienced. I can literally do every task that the job requires.

The owner's wife and niece serve tables every Friday and Saturday (the wife also serves tables throughout the week). Here's my problem. Every weekend I serve their tables the food, do re-fills, clear those tables after the customers leave, and wash their dirty dishes. This past weekend I even took the orders in collaboration with all of the above stated, so I did all of the work. This was for 3 tables. At the end of the night they both collected their tips, went home, and left me nothing. Not even $5 or a thank you. As usual, I stay and clean up shop after they leave with $100-$200 in pocket. It's like this every Friday and Sat. Clearly their motto is bullshit.

I just feel like I'm getting taken advantage of. In many scenarios I do hard work and they get the benefits from it. One thing about working for a family owned business, you're not family. Am I an ungrateful bastard, or am I ethically correct in saying that they take advantage of their employees?

Side note, I only get $8 an hour.

        Quit.

No job paying 8$ an hour is worth that kind of headache.

I never get tips from the work I do for them on Fri on Sat, so yes, base pay.

Albeit, Sundays I do deliveries and Mondays I get to wait tables. (At most 5-6 tables come in and I do all of the work, plus I give tips to the cooks because they also work hard)

Every week I'm probably pocketing like $50-$70 in tips.

I need a new goddamn job.

You should speak up to those greety fuckers. But then again minimum wage is BS, sounds like you need a new job.

^ Agreed. I know how it can be to be completely under appreciated/paid for the work you do, in my situation there wasn't much I can do about it being in the army and all, but you have some options like above stated. Does anyone that pull any weight there notice how hard you work and makes note of it? They would be your best friend when making a grievance, if not I would say before you up and quit, I would highly recommend looking for another job first especially one that you don't need this "recommendation" from, more likely than not they'll be dicks just like they are now.

edit: Or just not work Friday/Saturdays there and get a second Friday/Saturday job

edit again: Because of the Grammar Nazi...

I would definitely speak up then.
I have worked at restaurants since I was 15; 20 now.
First restaurant was family owned (I was family hehe), however the hired help were ALWAYS tipped out accordingly.
Second restaurant I worked at, they didn't tip me out my first night and you can bet your last dollar I made it clear that pulling that shit didn't fly with me.
Current restaurant I work at has always made it a responsibility to get my tips to me.

I say you walk out the door and find another job that treats you right.
you worked for those tips ffs and I can relate to how you must feel.
hell, I pretty much rely solely on my tips because I can't survive off shit min. wage.
