YES! I'm getting a supermoto next. I currently have a streetfighter ZZR600...love it, but I just moved back to LA and there are NO good roads meant for a sport bike like back in Texas.
A supermoto would do well out here! Probably gonna build a custom one out of a 400 or 450.

The 610 is still pretty maintenance heavy. Mine just turned 14,000 and is ready for another timing chain.
Nothing compared to the race bikes though.Leave a comment:

The other thing to consider when looking at supermoto's is how much time are you willing to put into maintenance? Most of the the 450 class mx based bikes need maintained to a higher level to keep em going. Much more frequent intervals on everything, oil changes, air filter, valve adjustments, ect. Also including top end (piston, cylinder, ect) replacements in as little as 40 hours of ride time. You can sometimes push to 80hrs, but even this is not a whole lot actual miles. Whereas the drz's, 610's, and the likes. These bikes were designed from the get go to put on miles without all the hassle.Leave a comment:

One of my riding buddys has a DRZ with over 35,000 miles of rode hard put away wet miles on it and the motor has never been touched other than oil changes.
In contrast, I replaced the timing chain on the Husky at 7,000 miles.
You just can't beat the value of a DRZ. Too small for me, but a great bike none the less.Leave a comment:

Finding a plated/street legal XR400 is difficult though. Unless your state doesn't care about that stuff. ive seen very few that are tagged.
Found a couple for $2500, but the motors were shot
When I bought mine I think I paid $3k for it, rode it for a year, and sold it for that. They are out there, just gotta look. But bear in mind too, offer any of these guys $500 less than their asking price and see what happens!
No affiliation to these bikes but just searched using craigshelper.com:

DRZ. My dad has one and has had no issues with it. It's a solid reliable bike!Leave a comment:

I love my G450X but its no daily rider (though i do it all the time
)
I have actually been thinking of getting another DRZ for my daily bike and keep the G450X for offroad/hooligan rides/trackdays :up:Leave a comment:

DRZ would probably be the lowest initial investment and require the least setup time.Leave a comment:

Can someone with this experience create a LIST of bikes that would be good for supermoto, street use, street/offroad? I'm having real trouble finding good possibilities.Leave a comment:

I'm 6'4" 225 and A DRZ or the 610sm ( that's what I have ) would both be good. If you don't mins the vibes the KTM 625's are nice too. Any of the 250's will probably bum ya out with the ( lack of ) power.
Depending on where you live a WR450 might be platable and would make an AWESOME tard, if I could plate a late model one here in Kali the 610 would be history.Leave a comment:

Solid advice, thanks guys.
Does the fact that I am 6' 4" and 200lbs change your bike recommendations any?Leave a comment:

For a streetable tard go drz, or husky sm610. Or for a bit more modern setup look into the wr250x. Not great for long hauls but awesome for around town hooning and general riding. Slow enough to somewhat stay out of trouble but fast enough to still have a fun time.Leave a comment:
