    Running shoes

I've realized that I need to get in shape, I have known for a long time but really am trying now. I switched up my eating, I am not on a diet! I just eat healthier and and am taking this as I go. I just wanna feel better about myself. Well anyways i started running a lot. I wear vans all the time and other than those only have basketball shoes, leather dress shoes and an old pair of running shoes. I'm looking to upgrade the running shoes cause I kinda refuse to wear my basketball shoes on the trail. So what do you guys have? I just would like some opinions, all helps, thank you :)

I'm looking for durable, breathable, must have flex and light kinda matters but tell me what you got!

Nike Free or Vibram. The Vibram I can tell you all aches and pains went away after running with them.

Get them run 1 mile the first day. If you don't feel any weird pains the next day, it's ok to use for all your runs.

If you don't have wide feet try Saucony Grids (all cloth uppers, very breathable, also grey & orange with stripe for visibility) , I have had a very good experience with my current pair. But really, you need to try on some pairs (esp brand to brand) to get a good fit if you plan to stick to running and not kill your feet.

Much appreciated. I'm glad to see the nike free have high reviews especially for price, pretty decent. I've wore vibram's before and not really a fan. In the vegas heat you just can't take it. But they do maneuver very well. I'm looking into the saucony's right now. Thanks!

It is pretty easy to get injured running if you plan on doing it a lot. But I'm sure you are reading up on all that, so with regards to running shoes, go to a running shoe store or one with a treadmill so they can videotape your stride, strike location and pronation. A good salesperson will have to look at that along with your foot. Plan on spending a couple hours getting fitted so, best to go during non-busy hours. If the salesperson is not choosing some options for you based on that information, go to a different store. Nothing worse than a salesperson just handing you shoes you think you want. I ended up with some Brooks, which I would've never chosen based on looks or even initial feel had I been just been looking around trying on shoes. But I have a wide forefoot, slight pronation in my left foot and midfoot striker.

'best' shoe is one that fits your feet right. A running specific store will be able to help you the most in finding a shoe that fits right, see if you can find one near you that has a fitting machine -- or talk to the store and ask when one of the shoe companies will be there for a demo day. Last time I bought shoes, I went when Mizuno had a demo. The reps had me stand and squat barefoot on a machine that takes image/pressure map of your foot. From that, they recommended a few shoes that I got to try for a short jog. Ended up buying 2 of the 3 options.

I find it best to run barefoot on a treadmill, but I do have a pair of saucony hattori.
I want a nice set of smoked MHW's (I know, get it line)

I've liked the few pairs of New Balance I've had so far, been slacking off with it being cold outside. Tried a couple of different pairs of Brooks........killed my feet. One time I even stopped took them off and walked home in socks.

I think there was a thread about this a while ago, but after running 8 years of track (both sprint work and long runs) my favorite, most comfortable brand by FAR was Aasics and the entire team's least favorite was Nike. Aasics in general has the best comfort and padding for longer runs, although New Balance is great for its variety of widths and Brooks fits more specific running characteristics like herbivor mentioned.
