true^ the H3 really is the way to go, you can buy attachments later on to suit your needs.

Not impossible, but I know our drivers are going to start looking for something with a narrower field of vision.
Hmmmmm, that doesn't sound so appealing!

If you have a smartphone, have you ever considered using it along with Harry's lap timer? Search for it on youtube, you get a wireless OBD connector and it will overlay speed/track layout etc onto the screen.

Skip to 3:30 for a roadster view (autox from my novice days). This is an original gopro Hero and it's mounted on my center compartment with a sticky mount. Keep in mind the location you mount depends on the time of day. There's no autofocus/white balance adjustment so vids can wash out from the cabin perspective during sunset and sunrise.

The drift HD ghost has adjustable fields of view 170° /127° /90°, 3 hour battery life (3 times more than the gph3), all of the phone streaming capabilities, wifi remote with LED to let you know what the camera is doing (time lapse, recording, standby) very handy when the cam is mounted behind you in a tiny convertible... The shape also allows for superior POV recording. That, and you can pick up a bundle with mounts, sd card, extra batt etc for 400. It's a smart option if you don't have to have 4k, or 1080p 60fps and want to save some money.

Either way you'll get a good camera, but with the hero3 you'll be a beta tester and hope it doesn't become a 400 dollar brick, until they finally release good firmware. Even my buddy with a hero2 has problems with his not cutting on all of the time.. so that's enough for me personally to seriously consider competitors

I have but have read of problems with thermal shut downs by the phone temp and such, and a few other little issues.

You can change that in the settings and not have the wide angle "fish eye" look on the vid it records.

                Yep.

Specwise, the 200 dollar hero "white" is essentially a Gopro HD Hero, just with the wifi capability, the 300 dollar "silver" is basically the HD2, and the 400 dollar "Black" is the new premium model with the 4k res capabilities and a significantly improved low light sensor.

Yeah, I saw that about the FOV looking around this morning.

Charlie, I was planning on requesting the Black edition. She can afford it. :)

                  Thanks for the input fellas.
