Help Abused/Beaten dog get a new hip

Hey guys, wanted to throw this up here and see if anyone is willing to donate a few bucks to help us out. Long story short, but buddies dad heard a dog crying from a few houses down, went out looking to see what was going on. Walked into someones back yard and caught the owner of the dog beating her with a steel hammer. Needless to say, he took the dog to the animal hospital where the prognosis was a severely fractured hip as well as a few other issues.

He kept the dog and had the former owners sign her over. After a few trips to the surgeons office, the say she needs a full hip replacement to be able to live a full life. The entire story as well as x-rays, the prognosis and recommendations from the surgeon are on the donation page.

We are trying to raise as much as we can, I am a broke college student, my buddies dad is a retired Navy veteran who served in kuwait and iraq and lives off his limited income. His sister, who took possession of the dog can not come up with that kind of money (times are tough) as they weren't expecting to have 5-8k in medical bills for a dog they never had.

In any event, please check out the link below, share it, donate it, do what ya can to help us out.

    Cliffs:
Friends dad (retired war vet) hears dog in pain
finds owner beating 1 and half year old dog with a hammer
takes dog to hospital, needs 5-8k worth of surgery
we are all a bit strapped for cash, anything helps
All excess funds raised will be donated to the tri county humane society ( a 100% no kill shelter) that REALLY needs the money.

Cant get the videos of her to upload.. but here is the link.
This is "IMG 1518" by Mike Lempert on Vimeo, the home for high quality videos and the people who love them.

PS. for anyone skeptic, please feel free to call the Vet/surgeon that made the prognosis. Or call me, or do what you got to do.

Thanks man, i had the opportunity to play with the dog over new years. Dog is happier than a pig in shit. Obedient, insanely friendly and just a mush... makes the whole "why would anyone hurt this dog" thing even harder to understand.

One, why was a complaint not lodged (and pursued) against the person who abused the dog after it was found that she was abused?

Two, is it really best for the dog to have surgery so long after the injury, especially since the injury has probably had time to heal incorrectly?

Three, is it really appropriate to consider spending this amount of money on any pet when the chances of her living an injury relapse free life (and her owners not having to pay for another surgery) are probably fairly minimal?

I am absolutely not saying she should be euthanized, as it is she can live her life as is, but perhaps it is wise for all involved to consider the long term costs involved in caring for any animal that has an operations such as is being considered.

          What?
As someone who works with rescue groups, and fosters dogs, if the quality of life for the dog increases then do it. I will be pledging funds.
Not sure whether charges were persued. The should have been, but this thread isn't about that. It's about helping a dog. Help, or don't. No one cares about your take on animal rights, or your opinion on whether it's worth the surgery Cesar Milan.....
Pledging 50 bucks. Who wants to match me?

            Donated.
Op, have you reached out to any rescue groups? They usually have volunteer vets who can offset some of the costs, just an FYI, you can actually go into pet smart and they can point you in the right direction as far as pitty rescue groups go. My foster pit "Fat Frank" is sending you guys love. This is him watching out for would be dog abusers. He looks a lot like her!

Still, my general point is whether the owners will be able to pay for the fairly inevitable vet bills further down the road of care this animal will require. After all the, owners are not much use to the dog if she injures the hip later and they cannot pay for another surgery, at which point they would probably be forced to euthanize the dog after spending a pretty penny on her and then getting quite attached as time goes by. Just saying, as with any pet you have to remember to do what is best for the animal while considering the consequences for its owners.

I see what your saying. The vet would be the person to give advice like that. In most cases an amputation is the best route, but again, I am not a vet. If the vet advises this surgery will benefit the dog in the long term, then I would take that advice.

Will do. Per usual Josh, you rock. Who else has some snaps for a black dog in need?

Why the fuck did this happen? Did Vic smash the ex-owner's face in with said hammer?

                      I'll donate this friday.

Hey guys, thanks for the help. First and formost, after a long talk with my friends dad, i had to edit what i wrote on the page. Between us r3v'ers, no gun was brandished

Secondly, assuming there are lingering issues, the costs should not be as significant, and should/hopefully present themselves with a bit more notice allowing for funds to be saved up for, not just a surprise 5k like this is.

As the surgeon that they have met with said, he recommends the surgery to improve the quality of life for her. Everything else is almost meaningless, as long as kacey will be better off (regardless of timeframe), that is enough. If you were able to spend 5 mins with this pup, you would have no doubt either. She's the friendliest little put i have encountered in a while, one of those dogs you just wanna keep playing with long after you leave. And the fact that she is still living in pain, and deprived of use of her leg after what some dick head did to her, once again is enough for us.

And to whomever asked, no, vic didn't rough him up, although i find that to be a bit of fibbing on his part. He actually used the leverage he had about the abuse case to have the guy pay some money to help for food, co-pays for the 5 visits she has had, etc. He has since stopped paying, but not much can be done at this point.

Once again, thanks so much for the support guys. Even the smallest bit helps. If you could pass this on via facebook, twitter or whatever other outlets you think could help, that is awesome in itself.

                          Sincerely,
                          Mike Lempert

This is terribly sad! I could not imagine my pit having to live her life without the use of her legs, it would be too sad for me! I'll donate soon as I get payed!

Edit: Eh screw it, donated now. I'll probably forget later.
