I'm usually pretty honest, but fuck this prick. Why should you take a huge hit when he deliberately fucked you? Seal it, sell it, deny any knowledge.

But if you bought a truck, got home an found a blown head gasket and the seller says you did it but cant officially prove you did,
      what would you do?
I wouldn't know it 'cause the seller would have put that Napa shit it in and said nothing and packed up and moved across the state.

This is why I won't meet people at my house. Only people I've met, but random people, meet me at Wal-Mart. That way if they're not satisfied you can't come to my house and fuck shit up, or steal shit. Shady folks on C'list.

        This.

Also, why you would let someone you don't know drive your vehicle that will self destruct if the gas pedal is held down too long is beyond me. Twice!! and the second time after he did what you told him not to?! My brain does not work like yours does.

Because he put 1500 down on it already before I let him test drive it and I was hoping he would listen when I told him what not to do. Any diesel will start to self destruct at super high egts. Common knowlage for 2nd gen is 1300 degrees max which I told him, He disregarded it and took it past 1500.

its always best to assume that the buyer doesnt know whats going on and to play it safe. I know we all like to give people the benefit of the doubt thinking that they know how to honor your request but they can always choose not to if they are just blatant assholes. Usually you can tell that within the first 2 minutes of talking to them if they are stand up or not. Your in a tough position man.

Level with him and expect him to be a man and honor his actions. See where it goes from there. Stay strong and stand your ground. He is definitely in the wrong theoretically but its hard to enforce that in this situation. You were already too nice to him and let him know that...Keep us updated

Pour in some liquid HG and sell it to him. If he blew it up once, he is going to blow it up again. After he pays you remind him again, not to hot dog the motor, and I bet dollars for donuts he floors it to 55psi immediately after buying it from you.

We should take bets on how soon it takes the guy to come back bitching at OP.

I say 48 hours. He'll hot rod it around town trying to impress all the townies and blow that sucker up.

might want to check out your state laws regarding Warrant of Merchantability and/or Fitness of Purpose. You could sell it with a band aid and get away with it or get sued...

                    what would you do?
Does he know what a wastegate is or what happens if you over boost or what high EGT's do to motors?
Or did you just say, don't take it over 35psi because the WG isn't hooked up and expect him to know?

If not and he comes back to you, EDUCATE his dumb ass and tell him the consequences of what happens in this situation. Make HIM feel like he fucked himself. He pegged it 20psi OVER for 10 seconds for crying out loud. Like others have said, if he had no respect for your instructions while YOU IN THE CAR, who knows how he treated it with his wife passenger or when he takes it home.

Good that you did/are doing the as-is bill of sale.
I don't know if that HG sealer leaves residue somehow or evidence, but I wouldn't do it. It kind of makes it look like you were aware of the problem before he blew it up from his ignorant perspective.

Yeah, but your name is still on the title.

I explained everything to him. I told him what will happen I explained it as if he were 3 years old. He told me he was a diesel mechanic before, yet he didnt even know a cummins was in a dodge or that it was a 6 cylinder. Lol

Anyway he told me he is coming tomorrow with the cash. I flushed it and refilled it and let it idle and coolant is still fine. Idk how long it will be clean though probably till he reams on it again.

He was a mechanic and he didn't understand your explicit instructions not to go over 35psi because the wastegate wasn't hooked up? I feel like that's part of why he was a mechanic.

I would work out some deal with him ... I couldnt sell it to him in that condition even though he didnt listen. It would eat at me. Between the 2 of you ..You can fix the head gasket for a few hundred and everyone wins and you can look at yourself in the mirror and feel good
