forgive my ignorance but when the hell do we get our tax returns? I for somereason have no recolection of when those come back and I would love to get that check.

I think you mean when do we get our W2's? By federal law they must be in the mail no later than midnight January 31 unless the business has filed a motion yada yada.... Regardless you should have them in your hands by the first week of February. As far as your return.... once you get your forms and process the #'s on it it takes 4 to 6 weeks if you mail it in. If you file electronically it takes about 2 weeks and if you use one of those "We rape people at tax time" places you can have it in as little as 8 hours. My recommendation is to file online with one of the tax services thats available. Cost is relatively cheap and it only takes 2 weeks to recieve your electronic return.

yeah I filed electronically last year and got them so they just need to be filed by the end of the month(jan) and then get them half way thru feb? thanks man

I'll add to what marakka said... once you get your W2, you have to file by April 15th.

I know this thread made me seem a bit ignorant but still being a student and so on working so little taxes have never really been a big deal to me. So I can file as soon as I get them so that the return comes quicker correct? I just want to gt on my suspension mods and this check will be my ticket.

You can file online for free, as long as you meet a few criteria. As long as you don't need to have weird deduction forms, have an income below 50K, you can file for free. Turbotax (Quicken) had an online site that you could file for free. That's what I did last year. You're gonna have to wait a few more days for the IRS to update their list of free online tax filing sites.

Yes, the sooner you file the sooner you get your return. When I filed in January last year, it took a little over a week to get my tax return.

My state taxes took two days to get back this one year that I used Massachusetts's Telefile. The following year I filed with paper, and I got it back in eight. HAHAHA.

The last couple years I have e-filed my taxes. Turn around for my state and fed returns was two to three weeks. I'm not one to procrastinate on this annual responsibility.....my taxes are usually filed by the end of Feb. or early March at the latest.

Don't wait until April 15 to do it. Earlier filing = faster return.
