I'm guessing its probably a little cool in NJ now but can you motivate your self to at least go for a walk ? 1 block 2 blocks ? any mild form of exercise /movement can help in many ways

Have you had any brain trauma? I was in a severe accident 3 years back and haven't been the same since. My frontal lobe took the force of the damage and now I do get spurts regardless of anxiety. I've had a couple at work and it's not fun. Basically the feeling is you are inside of your body, however the reality you know is fictitious, sort of like a dream state. You know how when you are dreaming you are somewhat aware of what is going on around you in the dream and what you're doing, but you're not in full control? It's sort of like that. It's more of a feeling of the lack of consciousness and awareness, however, you are fully conscious and fully aware...it's really hard to describe it...kinda like describing what the color blue is, or what the feeling happy is.

And to others, don't confuse derealization with just zoning out or day dreaming, they are about as opposite of each other as Wesley Snipes and Andy Dick.

        For those who have derealization:

How do you guys do when you drink?
I haven't drank this entire semester at college because of it. I'm on spring break now and my friends and I are eager to have a good time. Just don't know how it would go with my DR.

I've never had it drunk or high. In fact when I first started getting it I smoked with some friends and I would snap back. Most likely from the burning in the lungs and throat from the smoke that snapped me back especially since marijuana has a "thicker" smoke, it's more apparent to the mind after the first initial inhale than cigarette smoke. Drinking...well I don't really drink enough to be able to give an exact answer on this.
But smoking I've never had a spurt

Ah smoking made it the worse for me. Funny cause I've only smoked about 5 times, I hate the feeling of being high except for listening to music, and those 5 times really kinda fucked my brain up haha. I feel like I might snap back if I get drunk because I've always gotten derealization when I'm drunk, but I was totally ok with it. I feel like if I'm able to identify the change between being "fully real" and "derealization" when I'm drunk I might be able to snap out of it/control it.

I feel like if I just sit down at a park and try to turn derealization "on and off" I might be able to snap back to close to normal.

It doesn't work like that though. Derealization is one of those things where the more you think or concentrate on it the worse it gets...kinda like the buzzing in your ear when you're trying to sleep. The more you concentrate on it the louder and more pronounced it seems. So the more you concentrate on you state the more anxious you get, the more you start thinking, more panic kicks in, and the deeper the episode will get. If you feel that you are starting an episode follow the steps above and it should help.

The only time I ever experienced this feeling was when I smoked a shitload of pot. I felt like I was watching myself in third person, like watching myself on a tv show. I then got a crazy panic attack and felt like I was dying. Worst night ever

                        Motivation
To some it can be considered a mental disorder (ME)!
I don't have a lack of worth, the way my brain/mind perceives things now due to brain injury is not something I can really control. Yes I can "trick" my brain back to "reality" but when the initial episode hits, I didn't do it because I wanted to. It isn't fun nor is it a great feeling. And as far as motivation I'm one of the most motivated people you will meet. I do the best I can and keep pushing for the best in everything every day.
Like I said before, you wouldn't understand because it would be like telling a blind person what blue looks like.

this is a crazy subject. Ive only felt this one time when I smoked and I got super high.I think whatever I smoked was laced with something. Ive only smoked a few times ( I dont enjoy it) It was probably the worst experience of my life. I was freaking out for like 3 hours, time moved slower and slower and I felt as if I was never going to escape it

I had the slow-down affect too when I smoked. It was kind of like if you were to take a film strip and remove every few frames and then playing it back. After a while that really started to make smoking not enjoyable.

I feel like this almost every day and have for the past 3 years, along with pretty severe depression. I don't smoke, drink or partake of any other illegal substances, so I can rule that out. However, I have learned to deal with it by not caring about anything at all. Works pretty decently for me, but not a permanent solution. It's pretty liberating at times.

I know how you feel man, sometimes the depression takes over hard and turns into anger then rage for me. When I rage I get physical then I realize the wall is real. /derealization. LOL
