Awesome roadtrip pic-u-mentary so far on here.....it's like watching a movie unfold. Damn I'm jealous.
If you're coming through central IL on your way back you're welcome to crash at our place just outside of Peoria. There isn't anything awesome to see here, except if maybe you just want to add another bridge crossing to the tour, over the IL river. I graduated from tech in 2003, so we can always bs about that I guess."I think we consider too much the good luck of the early bird and not enough the bad luck of the early worm."

May 19. Leaving the seattle area. What else do I meet up with? Traffic!
I've been staying away from the GPS as much as possible. But when in doubt, the little $5 sticky pad I bought back in Dry falls state park works a treat. You wouldn't believe how well this actually works. It works so well, that whichever phone I have my sim card in at the time, winds up in the spot. Usually it's the 3gs, but the HTC has a better screen and GPS.
Traffic cleared up in Seattle. Onward!
I went North instead of south. Went and took deception pass.
Oak Harbor AFB on Whidbey Island.
And took the Port Townsend Ferry to the Olympic Peninsula
Which is Gorgeous.
I loled. Think about it.
And then I loled even harder when I came up to, no joke, Tokeville WA. This was to my right.
Day done. Stayed in Long Beach WA.
Next day, off to Portland. Taking 101.
Now in Oregon, where they have to pump the gas for you. Wasn't as awkward as I thought it was going to be. Nonetheless....
A boat, in a place not far from....
The Goonies house!
If you don't know about the movie. I order you to either cut your wrists, or yell at your parents for not showing you the movie.
And, of course when I walk back down.
Moving on, Oregon is VERY lush. Much like washington.
With logging, and dead trees, and replanting everywhere.
And the one picture saved from downtown Portland.
Before it went up and lived up to it's "Temperate Rainforest" reputation, that followed for quite some time.
But made the mountains look awesome.
Then a Giant freaking building you could see for miles. AKA a hangar
With a plane out front
Just under the tip of the wing.
And then I found the pacific for the first time in the trip! I think. Probably not but I'll roll with it.
Biggest seagull I've ever seen. I hate seagulls.. With the flaming passion of amillion burning suns.
And a half painted bridge. I thought it was neater that way. Paint the other side red, or maroon, or something. Change it up.
Riding the coast while raining.
Found the ocean!
More rainy mountains.
Sand Dune's OR. Where if you look really closely, a bunch of ATVs and quads were playing
A neat bridge. Saw lots of them!
And finally, it gets sunny.
With columns of very large trees.
And a large arrow.
When the coast gets REAL pretty.
And dives back and forth from inland to coast. Winding roads. Happiness.
Oh Hai!
We're still on the Oregon Coast
Where it keeps getting better and better.
But then Heeelllooo California!
Golden Bear Butt
Water on both sides
How the hood looks, just before camping at Clam beach CA.
If you want an interesting night. Camp out there. You'll meet Renee, a 60 year old pot smoking snoop dog jammin grandma who will tell you about the huckleberry's. Then some panhandlers will come and tell you they lost their wallet, and need money. While setting up their tent next to you. Then somebody will hike in, inevitably asking if you need some nuggets. Then the panhandlers will mysteriously have money. And all night you'll have people in, out. Come, go. the sound of the waves. The clarity of the stars. Not a bad night for your first night in conscious memory setting foot on the Pacific beach. There was more interesting stuff too. But maybe another day.
Car starts getting covered with pollen here, really fast. So good pictures didn't happen as often.
And then I Found Highway 1.
Dear god.
Words cannot describe this road. Drive spirited at your own peril, but it's so much fun to do. Twisting, winding, switchbacks, up and down. Cliffside carving (With no guardrails). When skimming along (Probably too fast for the road), you realize just how much trust you put in yourself, your skills, and your car when you have determined that you can take that corner roughly 75% faster than the posted limit before the contact patch starts getting sketchy. And I haven't reached the good part of it yet supposedly. That's supposed to be around the Big Sur area. Which I'm looking forward to. Here's a video for you. (Thanks to Albuquerque30 for showing it to me!)
Find me on Facebook. https://www.facebook.com/andrewjulianb License royalty free stock footage at www.motionplaces.com Have you ever wanted to visit Big…
ANYWAYS!
Drive highway 1. Just do it. To put it simply, I COULDN'T take picture while driving on it. It begged you to just, go. Which if you do, you CANNOT take your hands off the wheel. Those are legit 300 foot tall cliffs straight to the ocean. Half of them didn't have guardrails at all. Very large tree's just off the road. It would be VERY easy to die here.. The Gopro picture above was during that, because it's really the only ones that were possible to take. Very rarely did I have a slow car in front of me. Maybe 3 times. Other than that It was all just.....
Therapeutic.
The ones I did get will follow.
Notice the contents of the passenger seat shifting.
Oh yeah. In the words of Danny
"Welcome to California!:)"
It was in reply to what I'm experiencing here.
Staying in San Fran for another day or two. At the very least now though, thanks to the help of Albeqerque30 and MBonanni, and Pick-n-pull having the half off weekend, AND an E30 in the yard My A/C Is once again functional! $15 Condenser FTW!Last edited by TurboJake; 05-25-2013, 06:49 PM.Comment

This trip is so awesome, a major inspirsation. I just drove my car down from Portland this week and took the 5/101. A scenic route but more for getting to socal quickly not necessarily the best way.
Have fun in SF, I hope to catch you when you're in socal!'91 325i
