Everyone keeps suggesting older bikes, my problem with older bikes is that the cost when compared to newer bikes makes them tough to buy. My buddy rides an 04 or 05 GSXR600 and he paid $2800 for it. My old 05 R1 was $2500. Also riding an older bike compared to a newer bike isn't like driving an e30 compared to a newer car. The e30 is lighter, great road feel, feels likes its made better etc. Older bikes are much heavier and don't handle nearly as well as newer bikes, don't have nearly as smooth a power delivery, temperature is a problem for carburetors, etc. My CBR is an 09, but its really just a much better version of older sport bikes. It doesn't have a bunch of electronics like ABS, traction control, wheelie control, doesn't tell me how much gas is it or what gear I'm it.

You can make a newer bike your own as wel. I've just spent about $3k on my 09 cbr1000rr and will make a little thread on all the mods probably next month. You'll be able to see how I made it my own.

That said, the perfect route for you to take to make a bike you own is to get a frame and build a bobber or street fighter.
I want a nice set of smoked MHW's (I know, get it line)

To be period correct, the K75S. Sporty without being a sport bike but good enough position to tourer, like a E30.

Why do virtually all motorcycles have no title to them?

Like is it tradition to just throw the title away?

Where the hell do you get newer bikes that cheap? Even if I went to Atlanta (4 hours away) the only 04+ GSXR I could get for that kind of money is some boxes of parts and a most likely bent frame.

Started getting parts and rebuilding the bike.

Then over the winter it turned into this.

CL. Just keep your eyes open. I sold my R1 for $2300 on CL and it took a whole 3 days.

since bikes are priced lower than cars, the e30 of bikes would be like an 03 r6 or 6rr or something. $3-4k for great performance (beat the crap out of an e30)

This easily. You can get a decade old one in the naked form for a couple of grand and it looks like the recent models.
                      Im now E30less.

This actually is my choice as well.

Not too expensive, some cult following but also people riding them for purely logical reasons, light-ish and nimble, very durable and modern enough to be very reliable, not a lot of torque but makes enough power to be entertaining and go quickly, particularly at the hands of a skilled operator.

Yep, sounds like an E30 to me. The only big difference is Blunt doesn't sell parts for them.

Ive been looking for one of these, a 80's Honda Sabre 1100. I would say its relatively close to the e30 of motorcycles, except its quick. very quick.

Thanks everyone for posting. I've been looking at Ninjas, Honda CBs & Sv650s so I'm glad they came up in this thread. Everyone one else, I'll take a look into what you posted before I buy. thanks!

+1 for CB750's and +2 for SV650s.. the naked ones still look modern thanks to the Ducati Monster!

the former will be cheaper and imminently more modable.. the latter, thanks to technology and engineering, is a much better bike to ride.

If the E30 is simple, fun, lightweight & responds well to modifications, then I offer you this:

The Yamaha RD-series. I love the smell of 2-stroke oil in the morning.
