Need some camera buying advice

    UV filters are good for nothing more than just protecting the lens. If you're pretty careful and don't break nice things, you're probably fine without them. If you drop expensive pieces of glass a lot, not a bad idea to get one. If you do get one, make sure it is multi-coated, cuts down on lens flare.

        Bought the Nikon D3200 yesterday. I didn't buy many accessories for it yet - but I did take it out on a hike today. Some of the photos look like shit but a bunch of the turned out nicely. I certainly need a tripod, though.

        Here are some photos from the hike (taken on my new camera):

          good for you pat. i am sure you will be happy with it. why did you end up going with nikon over canon? price?

            At the price I was looking I felt that the d3200 had an advantage over the t3i. I knew either way I was getting a great camera so I just went with my instincts.

              Glad to see this came to fruition! Some good looking shots, and I'm sure with a little practice/getting to know the camera you'll be able to get some amazing results. I've gotten progressively better with my T3i (my first DSLR) very quickly since getting it.
              Different strokes for different folks.
