well, i never thought about engaging in this conversation on r3v, but i have to say that this is so waffleswaffleswaffleswafflesing true!

if anyone has any interest in knowing what you eat on a day to day basis, get a subscription to netflix and watch: "food inc." and "king corn" just to name two. you will never look at processed food the same again.

the problem here is that corn as an agricultural crop is heavily subsidized by the u.s. government which makes it a cheaper product than anything else grown in a farmer's field. it is used to feed pretty much all commercial animals for slaughter and it is used to sweeten pretty much everything that we buy in the grocery store. corn really isn't good for us and it isn't good for the animals we eat. studies in humans show corn syrup is likely responsible for the obesity in this country. as for animals, (cows, chickens, turkeys....you name it)they are pumped full of hormones and gmo's to compensate for the lack of nutrients they are supposed to get and to make them ready for slaughter about 5x faster than they would be if they were allowed to grow naturally.

all of this bull$hit is made possible because of the people toward the top of our government who make laws benefiting benifiting the large corporations they work for.

just a small example: i spend a LOT of time in mexico with my job. any time i go to a nice restaurant and order a steak, it tastes about 5x better than a steak you can buy here in the usa. the reason why is because in mexico corn is not subsidized so it is more expensive to feed cattle this product. as a result, cows there eat grass and hay like they are supposed to.

Wow, never gone that far on my milk. After my daughter was born I have been basically only Organic for milk and eggs sometimes meat and produce but this takes it to a whole new level.

I tried the Organic Valley Grass Milk a couple weeks ago and can't believe the difference in taste. I can't wait to move to a more rural area where untreated produce is more common.

If you guys enjoy this type of milk, I gotta tell you, you have got to try fresh, laid in your yard eggs. The yolk is SOOOO much brighter, hearty and not that runny light yellow stuff you get in the store. It is one of the most amazing parts of a breakfast ever. And it goes really well with bacon made from your pigs, that is smoked/cured by hand. If you wanna know what fried eggs taste like in heaven, get farm fresh, local produced, free range (not the storebought definition of free range) eggs, and prepare to be amazed.

Did you know the eggs in the store can routinely be up to 6 weeks old? My oldest eggs eaten are MAYBE a day old.

FK Breakfast Kits. Too bad the FDA/USDA gets all up your ass when you start selling raw, unpasteurized, actually healthy foods.

I highly suggest you city dwellers drop the coin and join a co-op. You "own" a share of the cow, chickens, garden, etc. so you can legally gain access to the foodstuffs instead of actually buying. Some of them even schedule days for you to come and "work" the land/farm, so you get a much more well rounded understanding and respect for the foods you consume.

I'm happy my city has so much support for local, organic, and natural farmers. I don't do dairy/eggs and mostly stay away from meat.

The saddest part is that the veggies you buy at your local grocery store today are total shit. Even the organic stuff is missing all the nutrients that ancestral crops provided us.

Grow your own. Grow heritage crops. Grow organic.

Most of America is overweight and starving because the food available is completely nutritionally void, and forget about those spray-on vitamins--worthless.

This is crazy just blaming the government and the companies lobbying the government. Am I saying they are innocent in all the GMO and chemicals pumped into livestock and sprayed on fields, no. But the root of the problem is over consumption by the CONSUMER.

The consumer wants a plate of meat with every meal and to eat shit thats not in season. The only way to meet that want is with these production methods, or as people say the"Un-healthy" option. Eating organic is great, and I encourage everyone to try and eat as healthy and fresh as possible, but then people will need to understand not every type of food will be available all the time and prices will skyrocket.

I agree! Farm fresh eggs are hands down way better tasting (and better for you) than store bought eggs.

Whole, non-homogenized milk from grass fed cows is pretty good, but it has still been pasteurized, which kills all the enzymes that make milk good for you to drink. +1 on comment above, about how crazy hard it is to get raw dairy, due to totally industry-pushed government regulations (meant to protect and favor the industry, not consumers).

Also, keep in mind, all these archaic industry regulations were created during the Industrial Revolution, and were made to protect end users from buying cow shit/puss filled milks.

Proper, small farm, localvore style production is a whole system approach that prevents these issues that made pasteurization a mandatory step to protect from infections/sickness.
