Why do you need something "professional" looking? So long as you're not wearing a bright g-shock, which I wear all the time to work, and you're not shaking hands to make large figure deals then what do you need to show off?
$100 is not going to open up any doors to a watch which would give off any impression of professionalism, just go for something with a conservative face and a leather strap, any brand will do.

I have one, the Skyhawk. The battery lasts for fucking ever. After I got my G-Shock, the Skyhawk sat in a drawer for almost a year. Pulled it out and it fired right up, with the right time too.
At any rate, I think I've decided to step up my budget a bit and get an Orient automatic. Can't decide between the Flight, Open Heart and the Disk...granted they are all very different styles, maybe one of each for all occasions.

Why not spend more, buy a watch that will hold its value, and own something that is actually worth your hard-earned cash? Or, at least has a good story?
You can find fantastic Benrus GI issue watches in the $500-range and Omega Seamaster Cosmics slightly beyond that. Beautiful, USA-made vintage Hamiltons can be found around there as well. Stretch it a bit more and you can get military spec Longines from the 50s. There is a host of good, interesting, and well-built stuff that is well worth the price.2011 1M Alpine white/black

That hell you can find NEW hammies in that 500 range, or import a very good Asian market seiko. Hell good used oris can be found in that price range. I do like some of the citizen ecco drives the Nighhawk is one of them.
Hell even some very nice vintage Auto Chrono Seikos can be found for well less than 500 if you look for a little bit. Like the "Jumbo" (6138-3002) (also a 41-42mm case,) or a "Panda" (6138-8020) or a "UFO"/ Yacht timer (6137-0017) or even be really different and find a Bull head (6138-0040) All made form 70-79 and can be found in good shape generally in the 300-400 range some times less some are asking upwards of 800 for NOS or greatly restored examples. Most all came on stainless and to me thats how they look the best but the panda and jumbo do look great on leather or NATO as well.... There are more models of with the 6138 in it but most of them are a bit more rare and will need a good 300-500 restore that would find in your initial price point.
Personally My Jumbo is one of my more accurate autos, and will hold to +2 min a MONTH....
Also if you dont mind a bit smaller case (like 37mm) you can get fantastic vintage King seikos with a 28,800 BPH and sometimes find the 36,000 BPH movements in them in great running order for less than 500 bucks too. Those older High beat Seikos are just as good if not better than the swiss and are very much a dress watch on leather
something like this is worth your money, it will prolly end in the 400 dollar range, and gives you something that is actually worth something and not just a throw away when it stops runing or the battery goes out
If was spending > 500 on a NEW dress watch I think this would be it, a SARB 065 aka "cocktail time" from seiko
All this said I am still looking for a Vintage 67-69 Seiko 6117-8000 Navi timer that has at least a good case dial and runs decent.........Last edited by mrsleeve; 09-07-2014, 11:15 AM.Originally posted by FusionIf a car is the epitome of freedom, than an electric car is house arrest with your wife titty fucking your next door neighbor.

Here's my collection...
Bulova, Invicta, Movado, Fossil, Nixon and the RipCurl that i use as my daily. I dig the Movado (bottom right) for classy occasions and on the other end of the spectrum i use the Nixon for hiking, rock-climbing and other rough stuff...cuz it's a beater i've had since like 10th grade.
The blue faced Invicta is neat cuz it's Automatic and has a crystal backing making the movement visible. The Fossil is kinda cool for a cheapo since it has a color changing face that goes from blue to green and has a setting that changes it every hour.
Don't really use the Invicta watches too much unless they work with what im wearing.
I really like watches and im looking for higher end time-pieces such as a Speedmaster or something vintage and classy. Looking thru this thread gives me a lot of ideas and it's cool to see what is out there...R3V has some good taste BTW.

You all make great points, seems like I wouldn't be happy with anything under about $250 and even that it wouldn't be a long term watch. For now, I think I'll just get a nice leather nato strap for my Seiko 5 and stick with it for a while. I really need to educate myself on what's out there and reasonable prices. All this talk about ETA movement this, vintage 50s that has me way out of my element.
