Hawthorne Police Officer shooting dog. (NSFW)

Police detain a guy filming them, and then kill his dog right infront of him.

angle 1 (skip to around 1:55)

This country has gone to shit. I've seen way too many of these police brutality videos as of late. And somehow nothing gets done about, seems like a new one pops up every day.

Yup. Somethings you just cant unsee! No matter how much you would like to.

Officers will claim they were justified in their actions as they were in fear for their lives , blah , blah, blah.

It's hard for me to see any justification in the officers actions. First of all, the man being detained was completely non violent. They should have backed away from the dogs owner and let him close the dog securely in the car.

Yes the perp could run, but he wouldn't have walked up to them and put his hands behind his back willingly if he was going to run.

I do understand that the officers could be afraid for their lives. But why antagonize it. I wish it would have ripped the shooters arm off if it was going down anyway. I wish more that the officer would have been a decent fucking shot and hit the dog in a fatal spot since he was 3ft away so it wouldn't have to struggle and suffer.

Guy should have known better than to have a dog, especially a large one around a crime scene or anywhere with that much police presence. But the situation should still have never had to go down like that. It's absolutely sickening.

Also, why did 2 of the cops have ARs or similar guns?
I could see a riot breaking out if this happened in the wrong area.

As shitty as this is, I feel it is the owners fault.

I'm sure that dog's owner knew his dog was protective. So why would he even bring the dog into that situation? Then he failed by not securing the animal, which I'm sure he also knew that the dog would be willing to jump out. Hell I had a rot jump out of a truck window from 6 feet to go greet another animal. I'm sure he would have jumped from higher if he felt I was in danger.

In the end, IMO, this is the owners fault. We don't know why the police approached him, but from the looks things this was a relatively serious crime scene. They could have already been on edge and just wanted to ask the guy some questions. Until the entire story comes out I think it is a little unfair to blame the police.

That officer demonstrated a hesitation to shoot the animal. He only shot after repeated lunges and obvious acts of aggression. I don't think I would have let that dog get ahold of me either.

Sad day indeed, I feel for the owner, but I'll wait before I grab my pitchfork and torch.

No. This stuff happens everyday, and has been for years. Thanks to technology (and everyone having access to it at anytime of day with cell phones) we are able to get detailed events as they unfold when usually we wouldn't.

Remember the Rodney King incident? it was just by fluke that someone had a (primitive but effective) camera in the right place, and at the right time to document everything as it unfolded.

Technology is bettering the world for everyone, even that poor dog and it's owner
