This guy called AJ is trying to get a billion page views on his site for a thousand pound bet! worth a click… im not sure if he can do it though, there are only 6 billion people on the planet!

I found him on Yahoo Business News:

He says on the interview with Yahoo:
“ThePixelWebsite.com grew from nothing to 200,000 hits in the first week of being online, over a game of snooker, I just happened to be boasting about it to my friends, which later turned into a debate on how websites work and how to promote them… one of them challenged me, and I love a good challenge, they bet me and said they would gladly give me £ 1000 if I could make a site that gets One Billion Hits! There was one major clause, I cannot spend a penny in marketing the website, just me, my laptop and nothing else. We all know I could simply put a refresh tag in and leave my laptop on for a month. so I told him I would get 1 billion unique hits just to prove it can be done.”

How long has the page been up and he only has just over 100k? Even if he got a million hits a day it would still take him almost 3 years to get a billion.

I don't really see it happening either. I think it will easily get a couple million, but a billion is going to take a long ass time.

Even in America, one of the most technological countries in the world, he won't get anything close to our population. That's about a touch more than a 1/4 of his goal. Interesting though.

It has nothing to do with the amount of people in the world, the number of computers is what's important. He needs 1 billion hits from individual computers, it could be the same five hundred million people that each accessed the site using two computers, for example. Obviously, this isn't realistic either, I just wanted to demonstrate that it's the number of computers that's really important.
