    Need to learn German/Austrian...best sources?

Hey everyone...so I need to learn German/Austrian...quickly. So as some of you may remember from a few threads of mine I just moved in with new roommates. Well it turns out they have in their social circle a large...and I mean LARGE group (approximately 25-30) of All Pairs...not sure if that's how it's spelled but that's how it's pronounced. If you don't know what that is, they are basically European females (19-25) that come over here to live with a host family and babysit their kids. We just threw a party/sleepover for them at our house where all of the All Pairs attended and it was mostly just me and my roommates, 3 (males) total. Not going to lie, best party I've attended. I ended up meeting a girl from Austria and she is the newest to arrive, she's been here for just a week. We're pretty dead set on learning German/Austrian to impress and to communicate with them...their English is impressive but there's still a little bit of a language barrier. Anyone know the best sources where we can learn German/Austrian. We're mostly concentrated on speaking, not so much as reading and writing.

Immerse yourself in the language. Movies, TV, books, any form of media try to take in in the language you wish to learn. Use sub's at first, watch it a few times and then try without sub's. Also, speak with someone in the language. You'll learn how it's actually spoken vs. sounding like a speak and spell if you take formal classes.

I have a friend that used this technique prior to going to Japan as an English teacher, and he went from knowing a few random words to being able to converse comfortably in just under 6 months. It's not going to help your written and reading so much, but it'll get you by.

I taught myself English from watching the Police Academy movies so I'd think you'd learn other languages the same way.. that's more of a long term process tho' ..

There is a game/learning app called Duolingo. Seems interesting so far, but I know a little German already.

Germany's always been on my list of places I've wanted to go. As far as learning the language, it has been on the list too...I just haven't really had anyone around I know of that's German or any motivation to study outside of class. Now, things are different. I'm not trying to just get laid, I'm in a perfect position right now to actually take the plunge and submerge myself in a different culture and attempt to learn a new language. I don't always think with the lower head.
