Just get the GoPro Hero 3. Think white is the cheapest one at $200(?).

There are a million mounts and then you can use it for other things. I have a suction cup mount and it goes up behind the mirror just like a radar detector.
      Im now E30less.

I am considering the Livue LB100 (3rd one down) because it has better then average night video which will be good for the 8 months out of the year that it is dark before 5pm. It is about $115 shipped not sure how cheap you want but further down there are some for around $40.

How hard would it be to stealth mount some camera? Like, mount the camera up near the rear view mirror but have all the internals mounted somewhere else in the car? Say running off a Raspberry Pi or something, if they can even do that and have some stupid big external hard drive to store the footage.

Every time I think about how terrible drivers are here in the US, I think of these russian videos and realize it could be so so so so so so much worse.

Well a contour camera looks more like a flashlight, so it wouldn't look quite as obvious

I think of getting a dash cam, then think of all the terrible shit that happens to and around people with a dash cam, then I don't get a dash cam. Kinda of a tree falling in a forest and nobody around to hear it thing.

Exactly! I had a totally boring life until I got first aid training. Suddenly Boom! Mayhem.

                No dash cam for me.

Free, portable, and probably better than all those other dashcams on that link posted.

Do the dash cams roll when the car isn't occupied? Potential anti theft also.

That looks like a giant hassle to set that up all the time, I just want something that I don't have to setup every time I get in the car and it just starts recording when you start the car.

Yeah, you can set them to do that.
