    does anyone

ever wish they could get back the hours they spent on r3v?

i've learned a lot about cars (and other stuff), bought and sold things, and met some good people.

but sometimes i'd like to trade these 2500 posts for something else. i guess that will be a 'going forward..' kind of approach.

also, lol @ cognitive dissonance of posting a thread about not wanting to post more threads.

I only fuck around on R3v either at work or right when I'm winding down before bed now. I'm sure I spent far too much time on r3v, FB, Jalopnik, etc. a while ago, partially resulting in the end of a long term relationship because I had my head up my ass not paying attention to the important things.

I've started doing "unplugged" weekends. It entails not using any cell phones, internet, email, radio, tv or any other source of "media" or electronic device other than my car to get places.

After one weekend, it's amazing the shit that comes out of you! not only energy creative-wise, but you have so much more time in the day. This past weekend was a long weekend here in BC, and those three days could easily have been a week...I really couldnt' tell the difference!

I was able to tackle chores I was only thinking of doing, and was able to spend more time with the GF. Every evening we'd play cards after dinner and discuss important stuff.

Last weekend was only a trial, but I'm going to implement it every weekend and start doing it in the evenings after work is done too. Funny enough, when I did switch my phone on and check email, I realized I didn't miss anything I needed to know ASAP anyway!
If it's got tits or tires, it's gonna cost ya!

that sounds like a good idear.

i had my iphone stolen about a month ago and got a cheap ass brick of a cell. it's actually.. kinda.. nice. it's freeing to not have constant access, at least.

i don't even use social media (beyond r3v, TCL, and instagram), but i still manage to waste way too much time.

I do and I'm trying to stay away but the addiction is hard. You can't cold turkey R3V.

Even though the there is an ever more expanded base of knowledge and creativity I can no longer pretend that I have anything to do with this newer crowd in r3v and the reason that joke cars cost $3000+. I'd buy an e30 again just to go to the r3v picnic in PNW though. /grump

Did something silimar a few weeks ago. Got a couple weeks off between projects and spent 12 days I the back country. Where there is no conetivity, and all you have too do is ride your horse hike and enjoy the solitude....... Not having to have this fucking phone on me 24/7 and just trun it off toss it in the drawer for 2 weeks was great

Sometimes I do, but I'm normally on when I'm at work and get a spare moment.

Weekends I'm usually out doing shit. Since I ditched cable TV I get a lot more done now.

At one point I was on r3v 24/7 weekends included; had an average post of like.. 17 or so at one point; checking r3v while I was in class, not paying attention, slacking at work.. Always checking Nor-Cal/SoCal and General chit chat

After I sold my e30, I went through a lapse where I wasn't on r3v for 3 months. It was very productive disconnect; don't know if I would've finished what I did if I had an e30 and was browsing r3v 24/7

Now a days, after the lapse, that "addictive" part of r3v doesn't hit me like it did before; I just browse to get information, ask and answer a few questions here and there, and maybe post an update to my build thread if I could be bothered (which most times, I am not).

Would I take the time back..? Not really, my e30 is what it is today because of all the hours I've spent researching the boards; but I feel my time nowadays is better managed and I'm balancing browsing time and real time well enough to where I don't need an intervention like before

I'm hardly on anymore on weekends unless I'm doing something car related and I need to check DIYs or something
