Im Poor, Im bored. Wtf do i do now.

Maybe Im asking for advice from wealthier R3vers, maybe I just need help IDK.

So Im working right now as a mechanic in an awesome indy shop. only thing is, i dont make anything for money, Im struggling to scrape by. I havnt bought a part for my E30 in months. I picked up a set of Euroweaves on the cheap, and ive been struggling to save up money for tires.

I went to school for Automotive , which was a bad idea. I thought id love it, but like everyone told me, it sucks. Im not getting paid anything and I feel i never will. This industry kinda sucks.

Im thinking about doing something with the National Guard. I like the idea i could keep this job and work for the gaurd as well.I enjoy helping people alot. I like the Idea of working for the Government, i used to have student hire on A navy base and it was awesome, i was making much more money then I am now. Im just not sure if my body is ready. And if the benefits are worth it, would it open the doors for anything? I wouldnt mind working for the military as a mechanic, but my family doesnt want me in harms way at all.

I guess my question is what do I do now, I can barely afford to keep my hobby anymore . Ive never been so strapped for cash. This job isint going to go anywhere. I have a burning drive to do better, all of the time. I know I can do better then where I am now. But I feel like the NG is for people who are going to go to school, not for ones who have graduated.

    Suggestions?

National guard isn't just for students, I've considered it before mostly because of the ability to keep a full time job and just put in a couple weekends a month for a few years. However I dont wanna get shipped overseas just to try to make ends meat so I decided to just be broke lol

Ever considered moving to a different area where they pay techs more money? I've been wrenching with BMW dealers for 12 years and I've interviewed up north at a few places. My wife's family lives up there so we've considered going once or twice. The amount they've offered to pay wouldn't have been enough to live on so we have stayed down south where I make more money and cost of living is cheaper.

look for a job not a career. do research. even easier.....go hang out at the unemployment office. why? you can apply for that same job that person got fired from.

I will admit. I have nothing really tying me down here during summers. I have been debating... Bit late for this year but not for next.

OP, you just need to get out there and do other stuff. Buck up, pull up your bootstraps, and throw yourself at nearly every thing that seems like interesting work.

6 years in the military changed my outlook on life and work ethic quite a lot, and i'm in a much better place now than when i signed up (went back into high tech, now software engineer, making about 4x what i was before enlisting).

that said, time in the sandbox sucked. you really want to go to afghanistan?

what military MOSs are you considering, and will they apply anywhere in the civilian world?
