my 2000 silverado LT 2500 HELP!!!

    ok, quick version

    I have a 2000 Silverado 2500 LT edition truck 4x4 with a 6.0L engine

the transfer case is burned up, and the rear posi blew right out the back cover in a explosion of metal.

I haVE picked up a spare frame with diffs. but its a 02 or 03 2500 HD.

now, my truck was NOT an HD but it had the 8 bolt wheels.
the new donor set has full floating axle diffs. mine is semi floating.

quiestion: can I just swap in both front and rear diffs of the HD into my non HD truck? or should I just use the transfer case (both were a 4l80-E trans) and try and rebuiuld the rear diff??

    thanks!

An E30 forum is definitely the correct place to be asking this.

    Also, bump. Good luck.

the rear diff on the hd is much stronger and if it is from a 6.0 it will almost certainly thave 4.10 gears which are what you probably have look in your glove box for GT5 under the rpo codes to know for sure

your front diff should be the same as the donors

the transfer case should swap right over as long as they are both electronic or manual

          Did you ever fix this?

          I'm really concerned for you.

I would think the swap of both front and back diffs should be straight forward. t-case is rarely hard...mind you my 4x4 experience is with old jeeps. do tell us how it is going...

Rear diff should be a direct swap, and an upgrade. The bigger rear brakes might affect brake balance. Transfer case should bolt right up to the 4L80E, but might not be the same LD vs HD, so electrical and linkage connections might differ. Might need driveshaft from donor chassis to get the right size u-joints. Front suspension might be different, LD vs HD, so the HD front diff might have different mounting points. Compare spare frame to your truck.

All of this is covered in great detail at the appropriate forums. Just search there and you'll be all set.
