      Paleo Diet

Thanks for all the feedback guys; I like reading through everyone's opinions and experiences, makes me better equipped to make better changes in my decision to live a healthier lifestyle. Too much good stuff in here and it's hard to respond to it all :p

I will be supplementing my diet with recreational exercise as well, so ye naysayers better believe I'm not just going to gorge myself and seditate on my couch the rest of the day. I agree with you that I think with any diet there is a responsibility to not go overboard with it and have some self-control and discipline for when to eat, what, and how much.

Overall, I will be starting a modified version of the Paleo diet, as I love my potatoes and onions, need my whey protein, and can't pass up an occasional good beer or two. Overall though, the concept will remain the same: shun all heavily modified processed foods and eat raw vegetables/fruits + organic/free-range meats and etc. All of course supplementing with exercise.

      My cholesterol is 203
      My glucose is 189

Both are relatively unhealthy at my age (21), so I think it's definitely time to start taking care of myself, especially going into the medical field hah

Being both a diabetic (type 1 though) and having an understanding of ketosis, why would any sane person want to be that way? As far as my personal understanding, I will enter ketosis (and ketoacidosis if I'm not careful) if my blood sugar is high for extended periods of time. Side-effects include feeling hot and uncomfortable, excessive thirst, irritability, hypersensitivity to touch, and resistance to insulin in ketoacidosis.

        Is there a different ketosis?

Not sure if this answers your questions but when I have done it the purpose of being in a ketogenic state is you are converting your body to burn ketones as energy instead of carbs. Hence the low carb high fat diet. Burning ketones is a highly inefficient way of burning energy, and since it's derived from fat you burn more. Thats why it's a good way to lose fat....but I would still consult a doctor first.

It's not hard at all to find.

I guess cost is a valid concern, but in the context of your health, cut out the other BS to eat better.

I've just got to stop the partying on the weekends that offsets all the healthy eating during the week.

I run a more paleo type diet every day but I'm not strict on it. My diet generally ends up being ketogenic if I eat how I "intend on" eating daily, I'll almost enter keto on accident. Still tho, this is the way everyone should be eating REGARDLESS.

To those talking about their nagging wives; just goes to show the amount of poison in the body already. You get over it the more you run keto for extended periods of time. Then you go back to carbs and its night and day. Nothing is as what you remembered it to be. And grains are just fucking terrible for the body.

I guess my point is ketosis is not a healthy state for the body to be in. It taxes the heart, liver, kidneys, and pancreas if not other organs as well.

I recently did Paleo no carb diet for 10 days as I wanted to shed some body fat and the diet works but I did not like the way my body felt while I was on it.

Being Chinese and having rice as a daily carb staple, just dropping that was a shock to my system. After 4 days my sugar/dessert cravings were intense and my friends told me I'm just going to junk food withdrawal.

I ate lots of protein and vegetables but I never felt full, my stomach felt clogged as it was processing all this meat, had gas and was always thirsty. Had as little sugar as possible, no alcohol and continued with my weekly workout routine.

After the 10 days I did reach my target, my food selections have changed, the desire for junk food/sugars have dropped 90% and I drink a lot more water now. So the 10 day ordeal did reprogram how I choose to fuel my body which helps keeping the fat off, but I won't be doing this diet ever again.

                        Paleo Diet

I guess I should post my results; I want to try it for 30 days and see. So far I'm hearing good things, and a couple things to watch out for. I've done cleanses before, so I shouldn't have trouble with migraines from a decrease of caloric intake.

                        Currently I am:
                        227 Lbs
                        5'7"
                        21 years old
                        Total Chol: 203
                        Triglyc: 144
                        HDL: 43
                        LDL: 131
                        Glucose: 91

I'm pretty healthy (but still at risk if I don't change my diet/exercise routines) and my doctor already cleared me for a weight loss routine. We'll see how it goes

Good luck with the diet. I chose the plant based route and feel great. Generally any diet with low processed food and added sugar intake will be healthier and should be considered as a permanent way of eating. For losing weight though, it is my understanding that fasting for 24 hours twice a week, then eating normally on the other days is the most effective way to lose weight and keep the pounds off. My buddy lost 120 lbs doing that over the course of a couple years along with exercising daily. He had no special diet.
