    Should I Buy a Volvo?

So I currently have a 325is that I am not driving due to the fact that I have a Nissan 370Z for a year (I work for Nissan, it's a corporate lease dealio). Anyways, I wouldn't mind having a more utilitarian car for the winter and also to use once I have to give up the Z. So I found a 2001 Volvo V70 T5 Manual wagon for 3k on Craigslist, 180k miles, but no rust (went and looked at it and verified), exterior is in great shape, interior is decent, new shocks, wheels and tires, new front suspension bushings, etc.

Seems like it could be a good winter car and fun as well. I might sell the e30 to fund the purchase as I dont really need two "sporty" cars at once. After the lease is up on the 370Z I will either buy a better e30 or buy my Dad's old 911 for sports car duty.

What does OT think of my plan?

A 240 remains one of the best second-(or third or fourth?) hand buys around.

Dependable, easy to fix, and even very cool nowadays.

New ones? Not so much. Plus, they're driven by teh gayz, so X1atcZ will be all up in your business for a date.

I had a v70 of the same era. I owned it for 4 months and only got to drive it a handful of times.

Not only are they a huge pain to work on they're falling apart mechanically every time you look at them funny. I replaced oil pan o rings, CCV, and the friggin turbo. I sold it after I replaced the turbo before anything else broke on it.

On the plus side, when the turbo blew it created a Blue Angels-like smoke trail behind the car that I got to look at while waiting for the tow truck.

T5 isn't a bad engine. I had it in my ex wifes 04.5 s40. I am not sure if 01's were the same exact engine but if so when was the timing belt done last I was told mine was about a 90k plan change.

This one seems pretty solid, and the PO doesn't seem to have had any electrical issues. I like the idea of having a decently sporty manual wagon, but perhaps this is not the platform to pick?

I vote for 240 as well. My mom had a blue 240 wagon I learned to drive on. Great car.
