    Oops.

Pulled into the parking lot at the gym this morning and blew my Reiger lip apart on a parking block. Cracked it in half down the middle, another crack on the driver side, and on the passenger side, about a 6" long section along the top where it mounts to the valance completely broke off. Might be fixable with a shitload of plastic welding, but don't know if it's worth it.

    Pics later today.

    Grumble.

is this the eurostyle copy or a real one?

I put a small crack in mine doing something similar. it's definitely not a big deal to fix but now I gotta repaint it. :(

thinking maybe I'll pick up an IS lip and retire the rieger for a while..

It's a real one, so it's ABS and just broke apart. The breaks are all very clean, so I'll see what I've got to work with after I get off work. The good thing about it is that I had it painted with the same DupliColor bedliner I did my engine bay and bumper trim in, so it hids imperfections and blemishes really well. Some plastic weld/epoxy artistry might just be able to rescue it, we'll see.

Superglue it back together to hold it in place, then reinforce on the backside with plastic epoxy. Be sure to scuff up the plastic where the epoxy will be. Should go back together fine.

I could do it for you if you don't have the time. I have some high quality super glue, but you would need to buy a tube of plastic epoxy.

I think it should be pretty fixable, really. There's one more crack than I saw in the dark this morning, but cracks are easy. The ABS is actually a lot thicker than I previously though, at least in the front parts. I did some pretty good plastic repair on my front bumper and when I re-did the grafted parts of my rear bumper a couple years ago, so I think I should be able to handle it. Should make a for a good project.

Makes me SO glad I bought this a couple years back:

Kamotors has rebuilt a few including mine, I blew up my "is" and he repaired a kamei as well on I think that sounds like a similar case to yours. He used carbon fiber if I remember correctly. Id ask him.

Pics of the carnage. I don't think this is really that bad, there's just a lot to fix.

The break in the middle is PERFECTLY clean, no chips missing or anything:

I have to say, if there's any kind of a silver lining to this, I'm impressed as HELL at the durability of Duplicolor bedliner. I smashed this thing into a concrete slab hard enough to bust the entire thing free from my car, and this is all the damage the coating took:

Just a little bit off topic ;)

No worries. Right now, I just have a set of black vinyl comforts, but yes, I did sell my Recaros. I have a new set waiting to go in, I just need one more lower bolster foam, and a new set of inserts made for the centers, I have a full set of new black vinyl jackets with red stitching. The centers will be black cloth with red Recaro logos.

Started fixing the lip this weekend. I superglued the cracks and broken off pieces back together, just to get the thing into one piece again.

Then yesterday, I used a palm sander to sand all of the bedliner off, and get the cracked sections flush. Once they were all sanded down, I turned the backside. I used fiberglass tape to reinforce the cracked sections. I laid down one coat of plastic epoxy, pressed a strip of tape into it, saturated with another coat, laid in another strip, then saturated again with more epoxy. When the cracks are all repaired and dry, I'll be repainting the lip again with the same bedliner I used before, but I'll also be coating the backside where the major repairs were done.
