I'm applying to art center in california...

I was afraid of that. Art Center is definitely my recommendation over Brooks, but with all due respect, those photos are nowhere NEAR the quality you need to be accepted into Art Center. I know several people personally who didn't get in until their 4th or 5th applications. I know a handful of graduates who say the photo program there was excellent, and when I was looking at photo programs I visited both Brooks and Art Center and Art Center was the hands-down choice.

But frankly, from what you posted, you need a lot of improvement. Re-read the portfolio requirements; off the top of my head I seem to remember the words "unique" and "eye catching" being used to describe the work they expect from prospective student portfolios. That was 4 years ago that I was looking at the schools, though.

In all honesty, you are crazy to think about paying $38k-ish to go to photo school. If you have any natural talent, there are other ways into the business which you don't have to spend that much money on...

Thank you. Thank you so very much. This is exactly what i've been needing now for quite some time, a reality check. I guess my "artistic" ego was getting out of check and i began to think i was a shoe-in for the school. I guess i've been concentrating far too much on the technical side of things that I've been neglecting my creative side. Don't get me wrong, I can be creative, I just need to find it once again and nurture it.

As for thinking of paying 38k+ for school, I think it'd be worth it. It'd only help me enrich myself in my passion for this artform. I've already been given a few oppurtunities to, "get my feet wet" in this industry, and i know it's a difficult place to be, but without a great struggle, there is no great reward. As cheesy as it sounds, but it's something i want to do.

I appreciate your criticisms so very much Ben, and please, if you have anymore advice to give me for my future, don't hesitate to let me know. I'm 21, and I feel as though I've gone and wasted 4 years of my life already, I need to make something work, I'm not getting any younger.

I know you're about a 2 hour drive away from me, but maybe we can meet up sometime and shoot, I'm sure there's much i can learn from you.

Yeah there's been a few people that got accepted into Brooks (our high-school has a great photo program) and ended up going there for a while then transfering because they didn't think it was worth the money, etc.

You've got some nice photographs though, I need to go hit the skatepark by my house with a digital camera one of these days.
