I'm not in IT (Well.. Kinda... I'm going for my EET which does involve a lot of communications and data transmission), but I get roped into doing contracted network revamps and diagnosing for large industrial complexes once in a while.

This was at a paper mill. Was not pleasant diagnosing the problem signal cable.

Would not recommend if you don't have the patience of a saint and recognize that this is actually a pretty damn clean setup.

I don't know anything about IT, nor do I really care, but from a hiring manager point of view certs confer some seriousness on a job candidate even if they don't have much meaning on their own. Just shows you care enough to jump through hoops.

OP, lemme know if you want to move to Dubai (which is awful). I know some people who are hiring.
If I didn't have a wife and child, I would probably do it tomorrow. Lol

I have no certs, and I started working in IT 6 months out of high school. Certs aren't necessary if you know people but something you want to have under your belt for sure. ALL the certs InuFaye suggested are highly recommended because those are like basics of basics in most fields. Im not as knowledgeable as most people for obvious reasons but if you are a a quick learner that absorbs everything you can start from an entry level to a top tier engineer. Some places are extremely high stress and highly demanding so choose wisely.
