    Recommended shipping companies?

I am considdering buying a car and having it shipped to me. It will need to be shipped from Texas (Dallas area) to California (San Jose).

Does anyone have any recommendations on a shipping company to use? I got a quote from Intercity Lines for $1491. ($1300 shipping, $100 fee because the car doesn't run, and $91 fuel charge).

Are there any companies that don't charge as much?

    I use reliable carries.
dependable auto shipers is another. (inlaws used them a while back)

Also I will ask my bro who he used to ship his mint 88 fiero GT from michigan to tucson this last fall. It cost him 1100 for an enclosed carrier.

My dad used Intercity Lines to bring his race car out here from Ohio. Worked out great and if anything was faster than expected I think. Its not a real small little deal, just since we got the car home Ive actually seen the transport trucks at work (Sears Point) twice dropping stuff off. They would certainly be a choice to consider, imo.

i have considdered them. i got a quote from them already but I thought it was a bit too expensive. i wasn't planning on shelling out almost $1,500 to ship my car home.
I am hoping to spend around $1000 to ship it. If not, i guess I will rent a trailer and have a nice long drive home.

I know there are transporters out there that will charge you less $$$. Of course many of these carriers use the 'open' or 'exposed' style of trailer (like what you see hauling new cars to the dealer). If you're ok with this kind of transport for this car you're about to get, it would be worth looking into.

There's no way in hell shipping a car accross land should cost that much. Try finding a car dealership in the area of origin and see what you can work out with that. Before I came to Germany I used to drive cars for the dealership to other dealerships. They would do things like that..... someone would call from say.... Texas and want a car. The dealership would call another dealership and coordinate a move since the second dealership already had a truck going that way.

In perspective. The first quote I got to ship a car from GERMANY to the states was 1900. I've since found them as cheap as 800.

Sorry Eric, I knew you already looked into them. I just meant that in my opinion, they would be a good choice. As far as the expense though, for the situation we were in to get my dads car out here Intercities was (I think, if not, at least close to) the cheapest option. Open style trailers and such wouldnt have been acceptable but I'm sure there are options for them somewhere. Making a road trip out of it would be a pretty decent idea too. I would opt for that myself if work wasnt an issue. We almost drove out to Ohio, but would have been away for "a while" :) Certainly would have been a lot cheaper though. Either time or a fat wad of cash...
